Champions 5 times Indian Premier League (IPL) Chennai Super Kings seem ready to trigger another young star of the T20 League after signing Ayush Mhatre, 17, replacing the skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. The CSK captain fractured his elbow and the injury excluded him from the rest of the IPL campaign. The situation prompted the management to give the captain of the franchise to his MS Dhoni icon, but the team still needed an additional striker to fill the void left by Gaikwad. After a successful 2 -week test, CSK Management decided to give Mhatre an IPL contract for the rest of the season.
Mhatre has already impressed many in the domestic circuit. He played nine first class games for Mumbai, marking two and a half centuries. The striker also appeared for Mumbai in seven lists of matches in which he had a high score of 181 against Nagaland. The conversion of departures into major scores is the specialty of Ayush. His 148 against Sarashtra during the Vijay Hazare trophy is also a fine example of the same thing.
“I started playing at the age of 6, but my real cricket started at the age of 10,” the feeling of adolescents at the Indian Express said last year in an interview. “I was admitted to Don Bosco High School in Matunga and it was my grandfather LaxMikant Naik (Nana) who took responsibility for taking me every day. So, in the morning, I used to practice in Matunga, attending school, then going to church to attend another practice. My family is used to doing my grandfather.”

Coming from a humble environment, Ayush has his parents to thank for the support he has received from them despite the financial difficulties that the family had to go through over the years.
“My father and mother never made me realize that there is a financial problem at home. As if a bat was broken, then I did not ask for a new one. Even today, my father travels with me on the local train so that if a verbal fight occurs with someone, he will manage it, so that I do not take any negativity when I go to fight,” he added.
Ayush, who played for Mumbai during the Ranji 2024-25 trophy campaign, had to be set up when Captain of India Rohit Sharma marked his highly anticipated return to the country’s first interior tournament. Mhatre later shared a selfie and a note for Rohit, the man he idolizes.
