Teams that have described the most times in the history of IPL

The Premier Indian League (IPL) has seen many franchises occurred brilliantly since its creation in 2008. While some teams have managed to win several titles, some have missed the trophy despite well performed for several consecutive years. While the IPL 2025 approaches its last stages and the best teams obtained their places in the playoffs, take a look at the five franchises which qualified for the playoffs the most time.

1. Chennai Super Kings (12 times)

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is synonymous with consistency and excellence. With 5 titles in their name, CSK has succeeded several times in the history of the League. On their 11 appearances in playoffs, they were also finalists 5 times, which shows their ability to compete at the highest level. The team, led by the legendary MS Dhoni, has performed well in recent years

2. Indians of Mumbai (11 times)

5 times Indian Mumbai Champions (Mi) are one of the most successful franchises in the league. With a strong team under the captain of the legendary Rohit Sharma during their successful race, MI has always reached the playoffs, especially during the 2013-2020 phase during which they won five championships. Apart from that, MI also made 6 additional appearances out of the first four, including a finalist in the 2010 edition.

3. Royal Challengers (10 times)

One of the most unlucky teams of IPL. Despite the massive support of fans and the star power of Virat Kohli, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is the only team on this list without its name. RCB reached the final three times – in 2009, 2011 and 2016 – but could not cross the finish line. Apart from that, Bangalore has played 7 additional appearances, mainly finishing third or fourth, keeping their hopes of title in season after the season.

4. Kolkata Knight Riders (8 times)

The champions of the previous edition, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), have so far organized some of the best performance in the League. Despite their incoherent start for the tournament, the team worked hard and managed to reach 8 playoffs. With the presence of T20 pillars like Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, KKR won the title 3 times (2012, 2014 and 2025), cementing their position as one of the strongest teams in the League.

5. Sunrisers Hyderabad – 7 times

The Sunrisers franchise Hyderabad (SRH) has reached the eliminatory series seven times, even exceeding teams established like the Royals Rajasthan, the Capitals of Delhi and the Kings of Punjab in terms of constant success. The SRH led by Kumar Sangakkara began his IPL trip in 2013 by finishing fourth. Three seasons later, “the Orange army” under the influence of David Warner won the coveted title in 2016 and has since reached the playoffs or beyond four consecutive times. After going through a bad form between the 2021 and 2023 editions of the tournament, SRH reached the IPL 2024 final to guarantee its third final appearance in the playoffs and seventh in the general classification.
