After 72 exhausting games, the 2025 IPL is found with only three teams, RCB already reaching the final.
With just three teams left in the race for the IPL 2025 title, veteran batter Shikhar Dhawan has made his pick — and it’s not the Punjab Kings (PBKS). In a candid interview with India Today, the former India opener threw his support behind Mumbai Indians, calling them a “well-balanced” and “strong” side that has found momentum at the perfect time.
Dhawan chooses MI to win IPL 2025
“I’m with Mumbai Indians,” Dhawan said. “The way they’ve gained momentum is outstanding. They are a very strong and well-balanced team.” The statement surprised many, especially considering Dhawan’s recent history with Punjab.
From 2022 to 2024, Dhawan was at the helm for Punjab Kings, leading the side in 17 matches. However, results didn’t go his way — PBKS won just 6 of those games under his leadership. He was injured and missed quite a few games in his tenure as well.
While the team failed to make the playoffs during his tenure, Dhawan’s personal form remained steady. In his three seasons with Punjab, he scored 985 runs at an impressive average of 37.88, often anchoring the innings amidst top-order collapses.
Now on the outside looking in, Dhawan believes it’s Mumbai who have cracked the code. After a shaky league stage, Hardik Pandya’s men have surged back into form, most recently knocking out Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator. With Jasprit Bumrah leading the bowling attack and Suryakumar Yadav in ominous touch, MI are just two wins away from becoming the most successful franchise in IPL history.
