The 18 -year -old has just scored a hundred by hitting the new number for U19 India in a training match.
Harvansh Pangalia has been making the headlines. Part of India’s U19 team which is currently on an England tour, the wicketkeeper-batter was going under the radar as Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi had all the eyeballs on them. People had either forgotten or perhaps didn’t know that Harvansh, like Suryavanshi, had hit a hundred against the Australia U19 team last year.
Harvansh Pangalia’s India U19 heroics
Before the start of the India U19 tour, the visitors played a 50-over practice match against Young Lions Invitational XI. As is often the case, almost every Indian batter got a chance to bat. Harvansh, who usually bats at seven, had to be pushed down to number nine.
Coming down the order didn’t affect him; the right-handed batter still top-scored for India U19. He ended the innings unbeaten at 103 (52). Outshining Mhatre and Suryavanshi, both of whom opened the batting in Loughborough.

On his own path
Despite being older than both of his teammates, Harvansh is actually the one inspired by them. Earlier in the year, they made their Indian Premier League (IPL) debuts, which launched them into stardom. More so in Suryavanshi’s case than Mhatre’s.
“They are my friends; Ayush is my best mate in the team. I am happy for them. They do inspire all of us,” Harvansh told the Times of India.
Although just 18 years old, the wicketkeeper-batter realises everyone’s path in life is different. Despite being the same age, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid made their debuts 7 years apart. And both enjoyed long and successful careers. Harvansh is very aware of this. And he’s sure his time will come soon.
“But everyone has a different path. Mera bhi time aayega (My time will come as well),” he added.
