The seeded n ° 3 Alexander Zverev and the n ° 7 Lorenzo Musetti became the last heads of series to lose in the first round in Wimbledon on Tuesday in London.
Meanwhile, the world No. 1, Jannik Sinner of Italy, sailed to the next round.
Germany Zverev, which is still looking for its first Grand Chelem championship, was eliminated by Arthur Rinderknech, France, which fell to the court of Grass after the exhausting victory 7-6 (3), 6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-4 which lasted four hours, 40 minutes.
The match presented 56 AS – 31 for Zverev – with 363 points in total with only seven points (185 for Rinderknech, 178 for Zverev) separating the two marathon players.
Zverev, a finalist at Australian Open this year, has never gone to the fourth round in Wimbledon.
Musetti, semi-finalist in Wimbledon in 2024, lost against the qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. For Basilashvili, it was his first victory over a top 10 player in major and came a day with temperatures that should exceed 91 degrees.
On another hot day on Monday, Holger Rune and Daniil Medvedev, also classified in the top 10, were eliminated in the first round.
Basilashvili struck 15 AS among his 48 triumph winners of two hours and 25 minutes. Musetti, which led the ATP tour during victories on the lawn terrains in 2024, missed the grass-up-up season after undergoing a left adductor injury to his defeat against Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open semi-finals.
“I had trouble feeling comfortable on the ground from the start,” said Musetti. “Go and go with the match, I really lost the accent and I was not reactive on the ball when I left the service. Even in lateral movements, which normally I know how to move, today, I have never played on this surface. A very bad performance, I would say.”
The defeat was the third of Musetti in his career in the first round in Wimbledon.
The sinner had no problem with Luca Nardi, beating his compatriot 6-4, 6-3, 6-0 in an hour, 48 minutes. He did not face a breaking point and had 28 winners and 17 uncomposed mistakes against 19 and 33, respectively, for Nardi.
“I am very happy to come back here. It is such a special place for me,” said Sinner in his interview on the field. “Playing against an Italian is for us very unhappy, but we must pass, so I am happy that it is me. The atmosphere as always is incredible, thank you very much. I know it’s very hot, very humid. I do not remember the last time that it was this time in London.”
Sinner, a major triple winner, is looking for his first Wimbledon title.
The seeded n ° 5, Taylor Fritz, finished the match suspended on Monday, coming from two sets to defeat Giovanni Mpeshi Perricard 6-7 (6), 6-7 (8), 6-4, 7-6 (6), 6-4.

The seeded n ° 11 Alex de Minaur d’Australia and the n ° 13 Tommy Paul of the United States also advanced with right-back victories against Roberto Carballes Baena, Spain and Johannus on Monday from Great Britain, respectively. Paul and de Minaur both reached the quarter -finals in 2024.
