“Taken Bull by the Horns”: RCB Spin Bowling Coach on the DEVDUTT Padikkal striker

Before the match of his team against the capital of Delhi (DC) in Delhi, the coach of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the Bowling coach, Malolan Rangarajan, spoke of Devdutt Padikkal, expressing happiness with his performances so far and hoping that he will hold his consistency during the end of the tournament. In third place in the table of points with six victories and three defeats, and at the top after their first home victory, RCB will aim to avenge a home defeat against DC when they face the red and blue side at the Arun Jaitley stadium on Sunday. DC is in the second place, with six victories and two defeats, which gave them 12 points. After a start to the season from top to bottom, Padikkal found consistency as number three impactful and marked two fifty successive against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Until now, in eight matches, Padikkal has delivered 230 points for RCB to an average of 32.85, with a striking rate of more than 156 and two half-century. After being chosen by RCB for RS Two crores in the mega-sale at auction last year, Padikkal was well adopted to a role of counterattack, unlike the opening role he had during the 2020 and 2021 seasons during his first pass with RCB, who saw him mark 473 and 411 respectively, including a century and six fifty.

Speaking during the pre-match meter, Malolan said that, quoted by a RCB press note that RCB was looking for a left-handed striker during the auction and that it was surely an advantage that Padikkal had already been with RCB and beat a lot for them, in particular with Virat Kohli.

“When Devdutt was with RCB, he had two stellar years. He scored nearly 500 points. He had an unhappy runoff in the past three years, but again, just with the way we prepared during the auction, we were very clear to want a left -hander. And Devdutt was sitting for us for the day.

“The advantage of having worked with him before, myself and many players, even Virat, who beat a lot with him. So having the comfort of knowing that Devdutt is available to be recovered later, number one is with regard to auction,” he added.

Spin’s bowling coach as soon as Devdutt found himself again in the configuration of the RCB, he had a lot of clarity concerning his role and he put a lot of work to perfect him.

“He was very hungry and he was very receptive to many technical and tactical ideas, Dinesh Karthik and Andy Flower threw him on him. And finally, the way he went and struck for us. There were some delicate situations and delicate conditions too. For Devdutt and for the team,” he added.

Speaking so far on Captain of Rajat Patidar, Malolan said that he had done a “formidable” job so far.

“All the matches he had captain, we had various games, a few games where there was not too much pressure, and there were games where the pressure was right, and there was in a way where there is an absolute calm and a clarity in decision -making, the way he roofer.
