When Logan Evans entered the home clubhouse at T-Mobile Park for the first time on Saturday afternoon, he was greeted by a hug of the Seattle sailors, Logan Gilbert.

It seemed appropriate because right-handers are both called “Big Lo”, and also because Gilbert’s first career trip to the injured list apparently leads to the start of Evans in his first major League match on Sunday afternoon, against the Miami Marlins.

Gilbert, an all-star from the American League last season which made its first start of opening last month, launched three perfect rounds against the Marlins when the series was opened Friday evening before leaving with a tender in its right forearm. He underwent an MRI early on Saturday which revealed a grade 1 strain of the flexor in his right elbow.

Gilbert is closed to launch for the following two weeks and was placed on the 15 -day injured list.

“I would have been really surprised if it was something really bad, but you never really know and especially when he never returned to the right,” said Gilbert. “But even I feel better (Saturday) already than yesterday. We probably don’t want to precipitate anything. We will see. But optimistic.”

Evans, the prospect of pitching the navy, was 1-1 with an MPM of 3.86 at Triple-A Tacoma. He learned that he was heading for majors late Friday evening and immediately phoned friends and family members in Michigan, waking up several to 1 a.m., he said that he expected 10 of them to be present in Seattle on Sunday.

As for his first departure, Evans, 23, said that he hoped to keep things simple.

“Continue to be me. Be just a hitting launcher, use all my locations, I hit the guys when I put them in these two -strike counts, that’s a bit of what I work on, and that I really make quality locations when I need it,” said Evans. “It was really nothing like reinventing the wheel. Just in a way to buy myself.”

Gilbert will probably remain in his usual day of the day without starting in the first row of the canoe, suspended above the balustrade to offer all the help he can.

“There are a lot of things I would like to know at the very beginning (in my career), and I never want to stack too much when there are a lot of things on your beginnings and that kind of things,” said Gilbert. “But I want to be able to help him, help one of the youngest. Like questions they have and especially him to pass it and not treat him too much.

The navies, who have won 12 of their last 17 games to enter a draw with Texas at the top of the American League West, will seek to win their sixth consecutive series.

Jorge Polanco struck two circuits, Julio Rodriguez and Mitch Garver went deep, and Luis Castillo launched six strokes of a ball at once in a 14-0 victory on Miami on the interleague series in a match.

“They were aggressive and put good oscillations to do it barrel … They were there,” said the director of the Marlins, Clayton McCullough, about the lighting of Seattle.

The Marlins should send the right-hander Max Meyer (2-2, 2.10 ERA) to the mound on Sunday.

Meyer, the third choice in total in the recovery of 2020, will pay six-sleeves aimlessly with a career summit of 14 sticks in the stick in a 6-3 victory against the visit of Cincinnati on Monday.

“Maybe you have five starts a year that everything seems to click and each pitch does exactly what you want it to do.” Said Meyer. “… I hope to watch the video and make it every game.”
