The Australian versatile of Punjab Kings, Glenn Maxwell, is “probably” from the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League after fracturing his finger. Maxwell suffered the injury before PBKS won the previous match against Kolkata Knight Riders in which he was dismissed for 7 pursuing a disappointing season. It was replaced by the Shedge Suryansh during the shock last night against the super kings of Chennai that Pbks won by four counters. “Unfortunately, Maxi broke his finger. He broke it just before the last game in training. He didn’t think it was too bad, but it ended up becoming pretty bad. He had analyzes and yes, the results were not great. So, unfortunately for Maxi, I think it is likely that it came out for the tournament,” said Maxwell’s Compatriot and Pbks Teammate.
Punjab head coach Ricky Ponting said the team is currently trying to find an appropriate replacement that may not be easy to find.
“We will sign some replacements at some point,” Ponting said at the post-match press conference when he was questioned about the row of injuries.
“We have until our 12th match, so we have a few more games to play. With the team we have, we are trying to find players in our team anyway. So we have Azmatullah (Omarzai), Aaron Hardie who has not yet played, Xavier Bartlett who has not played today.
“These are conditions based. But when we arrive in Dharamsala, he will come back in the calculation up there, where the ball could swing and bounce a little more,” he explained.
Ponting said the team has looked at the Indian talent it has, because international options are limited due to other in progress leagues.
“… There are not many high quality replacements to be honest. So we have just been patient,” he said.
“We are also looking at Indian talents and we look at which roles we could fill with younger Indian players. We will actually take a few guys to Dharamsala with us, some guys trained with us yesterday and they will come with us to Dharamsala.
“… We are going to watch them more closely and they could end up with a Punjab contract in the future (smiles). It must be this week, must be before the 12th match, so stay attentive.”
