San Jose earthquakes seek to translate their exceptional attack into more coherent results when they welcome New York Red Bulls on Saturday.
San Jose (7-7-6, 27 points) ranks second in the league with 40 goals scored, although this attack was somewhat counted by the 32 goals of the authorized team-the fourth largest number of the Western Conference.
This penchant for defensive breakdowns has left earthquakes unable to fully capitalize on their first -level rating capacity.
Last Saturday, the draw with the Galaxy of Los Angeles scored the fourth time in the six draws of San Jose this season that the opposing team scored the final goal of the match as an equalizer.
“I think that mentally, (we) had to be stronger to close the matches and get three points,” said the midfielder of earthquakes, Beau Leroux, who has scored in consecutive matches. “I think we have lost a little concentration, but always lucky to get a point.”
New York (8-7-5, 29 points) obtained a late magic from Eric Maxim Choupo-motor during the 2-2 draw last Saturday with Minnesota United. The Red Bulls saw an early advance of 1-0 disappear before half-time, but the choupo recovered the draw with an equalizer in the 90th minute. However, the sequence without victory of the Red Bulls extended to three games (0-1-2).
Cristian Arango leads earthquakes with 10 goals, and Josef Martinez has eight accounts on only 939 minutes of action. Cristian Espinoza is difficult for the league’s assists with 11 this season.
New York Sandro Schwarz head coach attributed the attack on earthquakes and noted “they are very aggressive in their defensive behavior. I therefore expect a very intensive game on Saturday. We have to defend very well, and especially in small details.”
The Avare Defense of the Red Bulls conceded only 24 goals during their 20 games. The offensive was led by Choupo-Mot, of which 11 goals put the front in the Golden Boot race.
The earthquakes are 3-3-4 in home matches this season, while the Red Bulls won only once (1-6-3) in 10 dates outside.
