THE International Cricket Council (ICC) praised the announcement of Fairgrounds to Pomona, southern California, as a place of cricket at the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 (La28).
The La28 cricket competition will include six teams each in male and female competitions, marking the return of sport to matches after 128 years.
The president of the ICC, Mr. Jay Shah, praised the confirmation of the place and expressed her eagerness to work in partnership with the International Olympic Committee (CIO) to ensure the success of cricket at the Games.

“Although cricket is an extremely popular sport, its inclusion at the Olympic Games, in the rapid and exciting rhythm T20 formatshould call on new audiences and offer a fantastic opportunity to expand traditional limits.
“On behalf of the ICC, I want to express my gratitude to the 28 and the International Olympic Committee for their support, and I can’t wait to collaborate with them and the members of the ICC to prepare for the 28 and ensure the resounding success of the cricket.”
The cricket, which made its only Olympic appearance previous at the Paris Games in 1900, was included in the Los Angeles Olympic Games after a CIO meeting in Mumbai in October 2023.
Cricket joins five other new sports at La28 – Baseball / Softball, Flag Football, Lacrosse (Sixes) and Squash.
The T20 format, recognized by the ICC as a vehicle for the growth of the game, has also appeared in other multi-sport events in recent years.
Asian games in 2010, 2014 and 2023 presented T20 competitions for men and women, while the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games organized a female competition.
