“Dear cricket, give me one more chance” – Karun Nair’s viral tweet turns into a dream return

When Karun Nair was released on Sunday against the Indians of Mumbai in IPL 2025, he seemed to be a man on a mission to prove himself. Strirage of 89 out of only 41 balls in his IPL return for the capitals of Delhi, he shot quitters like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardy Pandya and Trent Boult with 12 four and five gigantic six. He didn’t only beat but dominated the first ball.

This epic return was a moment that fans were waiting, especially after Karun’s emotional viral tweet in 2022: “Dear cricket, give me a chance.” He patiently waited, worked hard and when the opportunity arose, he seized it with both hands.

The name of Karun Nair is forever engraved in the history of Indian cricket. In 2016, he became the second Indian after Virender Sehwag to score a triple century in tests, an unbeaten 303 against England in Chennai who earned him the match player.

But shocking, he was abandoned just after these heats while Jinkya Rahane returned from an injury to the next match. Although he was in the team, Karun only played six more tests and never received a coherent race to cement his place.

Now, with the series of tests in England just at the corner of the street, the fans hope to watch him play test cricket. While India is preparing for a series of tests in England in June, the excitement is real and mounted – can this be the year of Karun? Only time will tell us.
