After a third consecutive defeat of the playoffs in the first round, the Milwaukee Bucks are faced with a huge question – to keep or exchange Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The future of the MVP twice, undoubtedly the most dominant player in the league, is the hottest subject of the non -stop NBA rumors factory, although Entertetokounmpo said it wanted to be exchanged.
Antetokounmpo, now aged 30, is signed for two more years, with a player option for 2027-28. But the situation is aggravated by an aging list and the status of the star goalkeeper Damian Lillard, who suffered a torn Achilles in the playoffs and should miss everything or most of next season.
Although venerated by the fans base and the local community, there is both a historic and recent precedent for the possibility of negotiating Antetokounmpo, which has an average of 30.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, pulling 60.1%.
In February, Dallas exchanged the quintuple All-Star Luka Doncic, the cornerstone of the franchise, at the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for the Veteran Center Anthony Davis. The move associated the Doncius, 25, with LeBron James, but the Lakers were ousted in the first round of the playoffs by Minnesota.
At the local level, the Bucks in 1975 exchanged the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Walt Bellamy to the Lakers against Bridgeman Junior, Elmore Smith, Brian Winters and David Myers.
In 1971, Abdul-Jabbar led the Bucks to the NBA championship. Despite decades of success, many star players and playoff races, it was the only championship of Bucks until Entertetokounmpo led them to the title in 2021.
In 2013, the Bucks used the 15th choice in total on a lean club player 6 feet 9 inches of Athens, Greece. Although the 18-year-old Antetokounmpo was on the NBA scout radar, those covering the project that night rushed to find information beyond a photocopy document of a page.
Antetokounmpo learned work with 24.6 minutes per match, with an average of 6.8 points and 4.4 rebounds, pulling 41.4%. Now muscular 6-11, 243 pounds, he has on average more than 30 points per game each of the last three seasons. During the recent first round defeat against Indiana, Antetokounmpo collected an average of 33.0 points and 15.4 rebounds in five games.
The Bucks won the title 2021 under coach Mike Budenholzer behind Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton and goalkeeper Jrue Holiday, acquired before this season. The Bucks lost in the semi-finals of the conference the following year, then the first round each of the last three seasons.
Budenholzer was dismissed after 2023 when the seeded bucks lost against the head of n ° 8 in the first round. He was replaced by Adrian Griffin, who was surprisingly pulled halfway through his first season and replaced by the veteran coach Doc Rivers.
The Bucks acquired the future Lillard renowned temple in Portland before the 2023-24 season in a three-time contract which finally sent a vacation, a selection of multiple defensive teams from the NBA, in Boston, which won the NBA title.
The pairing of Antetokounmpo and Lillard obviously did not produce championship results, and Lillard’s injury makes the future even more uncertain. The Bucks exchanged the Middleton often injured in February in a multi-team agreement which brought them Kyle Kuzma, which has an average of 14.8 points during the regular season, but only 5.8 in 20 minutes per match during the defeat in the playoffs against the Pacers.
Antetokounmpo and Lillard should each win $ 54 million next season and Kuzma $ 22 million.
The rest of the list is riddled with question points. The veteran center Brook Lopez is 37 years old and a free agent without restriction. Sixth Man Bobby Portis, a fans favorite, was suspended in February for 25 games due to a violation of NBA’s drug policy involving pain medication. He is in the year of player option of his contract.
The veterans Gary Trent Jr. and the Taurean prince are also free free agents.
Due to the trade in Lillard and others, the Bucks also have limited draw options and do not control their own first round choice before 2031.
The Bucks have no choice in the first round in the next draft as part of the holiday acquisition, which also gives New Orleans the right to exchange the first round position in 2026. The same exchange cost the first round the Bucks in 2027.
Portland and Washington have first -round exchange options in 2028, and the Bucks have no choice in the first round in 2029 due to the Lillard agreement. Portland has another exchange option in 2030.
Bucks Managing Director Jon Horst received a multi -year contract extension in April. He has a huge decision to make.
