Without the services of the veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Indian strikers were decently in December in the series of ind vs engine tests

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar opined that the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Tests hasn’t impacted the team much in the IND vs ENG series. The veteran duo decided to call it a day in Test cricket abruptly just before the start of the England series. Despite the absence of Ro-Ko, India have managed to put up commendable batting performances in 4 Tests so far, with contributions coming in from most of the top seven batters.

“Virat, Rohit weren’t contributing”

Speaking on JioHotstar, Manjrekar explained that Rohit averaged 10 in his last two Test series while Virat’s average had dipped to 30 over the last 5 years. He claimed that India did not suffer a huge loss by the absence of the duo simply because they weren’t contributing much to the side. The ongoing series against England marks the first time in a decade that India are playing without Rohit or Kohli.

Rohit Sharma was averaging 10 in the last two series that he played, and Virat Kohli was averaging 30 in the last five years. So they were perhaps not easy to replace, but it wasn’t like it was a huge loss. It was a loss of two very senior players, but not a loss of contribution, because they weren’t contributing as much,” Manjrekar explained.

Further, Manjrekar said that India had done very well to keep themselves alive in the series. He said that it would be interesting to see England’s mindset heading into the final Test rather than pondering on what would be the mood in the Indian team.

“I think India have given a great account of themselves. They’ve kept the series alive, and it’s certainly interesting to see the mood in the bus on the England bus when it goes down to London compared to the Indian bus on the way down to London. As we see Shubman Gill here in a league of legends, as it said, and certainly has the opportunity to go to the top of that sort of leaderboard there, and I wouldn’t bet against it,” Manjrekar added.

  1. Oh yes, losing two players with combined 150+ test matches experience and 15000+ runs is definitely ‘no huge loss’. And I suppose dropping Bumrah would also be ‘just a small inconvenience’. Brilliant analysis there mate! 👏

  2. I am completely disagree with this article writer. How can anyone say losing two of greatest batsman in world cricket is not huge loss? Both has score thousands of runs in England condition before. New players are good but they don’t have experience like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has. This is just clickbait article nothing else.

  3. Actually if you look at recent performances, younger players like Gill and Jaiswal are stepping up nicely. Maybe its good opportunity for them to prove themselves without pressure of big names. Not saying Rohit Virat are not important but team need to move forward also.

  4. This has to be joke right? RIGHT?? Because if you serious then I don’t know what cricket you been watching all these years. Rohit Sharma is captain and one of best opener in world. Virat Kohli is… well he’s VIRAT KOHLI! But sure, losing them is no huge loss, just like losing your car keys is no huge loss when you need to drive to hospital emergency. Makes perfect sense! 🤡

  5. What kind of nonsense is this?? Rohit and Virat are backbone of Indian cricket team and you saying no huge loss? This is most ridiculous thing I ever heard. Without them team is like body without soul. Writer clearly don’t know nothing about cricket.

  6. LOL so now we pretending that Kohli and Rohit are not legends??? Next you gonna say Sachin was average player too? 😂😂

  7. You know what, maybe this is blessing in disguise like they say. Team India always perform better when everyone write them off. Young players will be hungry to proof themselves and sometimes fresh energy is what team needs. I am optimistic about this tour even without the seniors. Lets see what happen.

  8. Interesting take but I think reality will be different when India actually playing in tough English conditions. Paper and practice is one thing, actual match pressure is completely another thing. We will see how team perform then we can judge if it was huge loss or not.
