The former MLB manager Dusty Baker is expected to manage Nicaragua during the World Baseball 2026 classic.
Baker, 76, retired major leagues two years ago after winning a world series with the Houston Astros in 2022 and was appointed manager of the National League three times. Baker is the eighth most winning manager in the history of major leagues.
Baker also played in the majors for 19 seasons.
“I am excited,” Baker told USA Today, “… I know that baseball is trying to go to Nicaragua, and I want to help.”
Nicaragua finished 19th in 2023 WBC, but obtained a record of 3-0 in qualification for the 2026 tournament and will play in the swimming pool against Venezuela, Israel, the Netherlands and the Dominican Republic.
