The decision to recruit Morgan would seem a clever by the MCC because it comes following an agreement to sell a 49% stake in London Spirit, the franchise based in the Lord in The Hundred, to a consortium of technological billionaires.
Morgan’s in -depth experience in franchise cricket, in addition to his extent of knowledge and interest in the whole game, is considered a valuable asset for MCC when he sails in a pivotal moment in his history.
Morgan, born in Dublin, capitalized from England to 50 to the glory of the World Cup in 2019 and is largely credited as playing an important role in the fortune of the limited team of the country.
Morgan will also be consulted on some of the larger cricket problems that MCC is confronted.
Among them, there would be the future of the Eton match against Harrow, which should currently stay at the cricket home until at least 2027.
Morgan, who was appointed honorary member for life of the MCC in 2024, is also president of the Professional Cricket ‘Association (PCA).
Previously, he sat the MCC global cricket committee, which was reworked earlier this year as a new world advisory council, including the Chairman of the International Cricket Council Jay Shah.
Morgan is one of the four recommendations for key positions to be voted by full MCC members at AGA.
It also includes a proposal for Julian Metherell, partner of the financial investment company MW & L Capital Partners, to join the main committee.
The former PCA president, Metherell, managed the MCC negotiation team throughout the process of selling participation in London Spirit, which brought in 145 million pounds Sterling.
The MCC’s main committee is chaired by the broadcaster and former cricket player Mark Nicholas and includes the new managing director and secretary Rob Lawson and President Lord King, the former governor of the Bank of England.
