The landscape of cricket in Hyderabad was disorder after the dramatic arrest of the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) A Jagan Mohan Rao and four other senior officials from Telangana Cid. Very publicized detentions result from a serious complaint filed by Kavya MaranOwner of the Indian Premier League franchise (IPL) Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)alleging persistent blackmail and misconduct by the management of the HCA. This unprecedented development has sent shock waves via the state sports administration and has raised important questions about the future of professional cricket in the region.
The controversy has surfaced for the first time during the 2025 season in March, when the SRH officially degenerated their grievances to the Cricket control advice in India (BCCI) and the Governance Council IPL. In their detailed complaint, SRH accused HCA those responsible for putting the deductible tirelessly to provide an exorbitant number of additional leave, far exceeding the stipulated quota. The complaint has also developed the alleged threats, declaring that AHC officials warned of creating important logistical and operational obstacles for the team playing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium if their additional ticket requests were not satisfied. The severity of these threats led SRH to issue a severe warning: if the alleged blackmail continued, the franchise would seriously plan to move its home matches outside of Hyderabad. Recognizing the serious implications of these allegations, the chief minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, quickly ordered a complete investigation, which has now led to these arrests.
HCA key members detained in the blackmail case
The rapid action of Telangana CID led to the detention of five important figures in the Hyderabad Cricket Association. Arrested people include:
- A Jagan Mohan Rao: The outgoing president of the HCA, a position of significant influence in state cricket.
- C. Srinivas Rao: The treasurer, head of financial relations for the association.
- Sunil Kanthe: The chief executive, supervising daily operations.
- Rajera Yadav: The secretary, a key administrative role within the HCA.
- G. Kavitha: Rajendra Yadav’s wife, whose participation suggests a deeper network in alleged misconduct.
These people are now confronted with a litany of serious accusations, in particular financial irregularities, the abuses of their official positions and institutional blackmail. The arrests underline the state’s commitment to eliminate corruption and guarantee fair play, not only in the field but in the administrative structures governing sport.

SRH’s position on the ticket line
An official statement of Sunrisers Hyderabad, communicated to the BCCI, underlined the climbing of tension: “HCA’s repeated tactics are not only un cooperative, but is equivalent to direct threats. If this continues, we will be forced to leave our matches in Hyderabad. ” This striking warning underlines the immense pressure of the franchise. According to the established regulations of the IPL, State Cricket Associations are entitled to only 5% of the total tickets as an additional pass for their civil servants and their guests. However, the HCA required a significantly higher percentage, using coercive tactics when their requests were not filled.
The current survey, now under direct supervision of the BCCI, suggests that this case will not be easily rejected.
