The Buffalo Sabers will correspond to any tender sheets to keep the defender Bowen Byram, but will entertain the commercial offers if the return immediately helped the team, the director general Kevyn Adams said on Wednesday.
Byram, 24, is a limited free agent. Adams told journalists that he is not interested in letting Byram leave with a tender sheet of another team, a move that clearly sets the recovery choices for the sabers.
“We think BO is an excellent hockey player who can help our team win,” said Adams.
“But … if there is an agreement that makes sense to us, it will improve our list, we are open there. But we are not in a situation where we seek to move it or move it for future.”
Adams said the team was ready to match a tender sheet.
“This is why the movements we have taken and the position in which we have placed ourselves from the point of view of the CAP were strategic,” he said. “If you leave enough space in your cap where you may see a projection on a one-year offer, then someone comes above, you potentially put your organization in a really difficult situation.
“The movements we have made and the decisions we have taken for weeks are now in this mind. We will match and have the possibility of having a contract under contract which, in our view, helps our team to win.”
The sabers have acquired Byram – Choice No. 4 of the NHL 2019 draft by the avalanche – in an agreement with Colorado on the commercial deadline of 2024.
During the 2024-25 season, he played the 82 games and scored a 38-point career summit (seven goals, 31 assists).
In 246 career games with the avalanche and the sabers, byram has 110 points (33 goals, 77 assists) with 313 blocks and 337 strokes.
