The New Jersey Devils will disagree while they will try to bounce back in match 2 of their first round series of the Eastern Conference against the Hurricanes of Caroline Tuesday in Raleigh, NC

The Devils, already without a star attack, Jack Hughes and defender Jonas Siegenthaler for the series due to injuries, made Brenden Dillon 1 in the second period and striker Cody Glass, was part of blue. Defender Luke Hughes also left in the third but returned to finish the match.

Hughes joins Dillon to be excluded for match 2, by head coach Sheldon Keefe. Glass, however, should play after taking a stick inadvertently to the legs of his teammate, goalkeeper Jacob Marksrom.

The Hurricanes took the opportunity to win a convincing victory Sunday in the opening of the series.

“For a man, including me, we should all be better,” said Keefe.

Carolina exceeded New Jersey 45-24 in match 1.

“(During) 5 against 5, I really didn’t have a lot of problems with our game other than what we expected with energy and rhythm,” said Keefe. “I thought that in the second period, we were just outdated and it was not good enough. The third period was good, but the damage is caused by then.”

Hurricane defender Jalen Chatfield scored at the start of the first period before striker Logan Stankoven scored twice in the second. Stankuven’s second goal, on the power game, put Caroline 3-0 before Captain Nico Hischier obtained the Devils on the board with just over a minute in the middle.

Andrei Svechnikov added an empty goal at the end of the third period for Carolina.

“For us to win, we are going to need 20 guys to delight. I think that’s what we got this evening,” said Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’amour. “We were ready to leave. This first goal, I think, is huge just to really settle everything. This allows you to continue to stay the course.”

Catfield scored on a projected wrist outlet of the right point 2:24 in the game.

“We have called this game, we execute it a lot,” said Chatfield. “(It is) bringing rings on the net. We did a good job by leading to the front and causing chaos.”

Stankuven kept the momentum by driving in the second period with his pair of goals.

“It was just nice to remove the first and start the right foot,” said Stankoven. “When you enter a series, the first is big, but there is a lot of hockey to play. It was very fun to play there.”

Hischier’s goal with 1:09 to play in the second gave New Jersey a little hope after having exceeded 38-13 during the first two periods.

“We have to work harder, create, create your own tracks on the net,” said New Jersey striker Timo Meier. “They are strong and they fight hard, they compete, everything we know. And as I said, we have a match plan. We have to execute it better.”

Keefe said: “We are not going to get much. It is reality when you play a team like Carolina. They will make you really difficult, but that said, you had more than us to mark more than us. There are opportunities there.”
