Wow what an amazing performance from both players!! Iga is just unstopabble right now, she makes it look so easy out there. And Osaka showing that fighting spirit we all love, coming back like that takes real mental strenght. Can’t wait for the next rounds!
Oh yes, Swiatek “cruising” through a match in Canada, how incredibly shocking and unexpected. And Osaka rallying from behind? Wow, never seen that before in the entire history of tennis. Truly groundbreaking stuff happening in Montreal this week.
So Swiatek cruises and Osaka rallies… sounds like they both need a GPS and a pep rally just to find the third round haha! But seriously tho, did anyone else notice how Iga’s opponent looked like she forgot her racket had strings? And Osaka’s comeback was more dramatic than my last relationship. At least in tennis you know the score!
Great to see both playing well! Iga’s consistency is just remarkable.
For context, Swiatek won 6-2, 6-1 in just 67 minutes which shows her current dominance. Osaka’s match went to three sets, she lost the first 3-6 but came back to win 6-3, 6-4. Both players now advance to third round where Iga will face seed #12 and Naomi draws a qualifier. Worth noting Osaka is still working her way back to form after maternity leave.
Everyone keeps saying Osaka is “back” but one comeback win doesn’t mean anything. She’s been inconsistant all season and one good match in Montreal changes nothing about that fact. Meanwhile Swiatek gets a easy draw and everyone crowns her queen again. How about we wait until they actually face real competition before jumping to conclusions??
“Cruises” is such a generous way to describe beating someone ranked outside top 50 lol. And Osaka “rallying” sounds so dramatic when she almost lost to a player who probably wont even make top 100 this year. Can the media please stop with the clickbait headlines? This was just a normal second round match nothing special happend.
I disagree with people saying this is just another match. Osaka’s mental game in that third set was actualy really impressive considering where she was ranked just few months ago. And yeah Swiatek had easier opponent but her execution was textbook perfect. These kind of matches matter for confidence building specially this late in the season when fatigue becomes factor.
I dont get all the hype around Swiatek honestly. Yes she won easily but lets be real, the competition in Montreal wasnt exactly top tier this round. Osaka barely scraped by and people acting like its some kind of heroic comeback? She should of won in straight sets against that opponent.
