The Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) shared an update on Rishabh Pant on Sunday and also revealed the team for the fifth and last test between England and India, which should be played in the oval. “Rishabh Pant, who suffered a fracture at his right foot during the fourth test against England in Manchester, was excluded from the fifth and last test of the series,” the BCCI said in a statement. “The BCCI medical team will continue to follow their progress, and the team wishes them rapid recovery.” Tamil Nadu Nadu Narayan Jagadeesan was announced as a pant’s replacement. “The male selection committee appointed Narayan Jagadeesan to replace Rishabh Pant for the fifth test, which begins on July 31, 2025 in Kennington Oval, London.” India coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed Pant’s injury for the first time after the visitors recovered a draw during the fourth test at Old Trafford on Sunday. Pant retired the first day when he was withdrawn from the ground on a cart with his seriously inflated foot, but he returned – an affirmation – day 2 to have half a century.
“It was said that he is out of the series, and one thing I mean is that the character and the foundation of this team will be built on something Rishabh has done for the team and for the country as well,” said Gambir. “Any praise is not enough for him, especially for the striker with a broken foot. “I think that generations to come will talk about it, and the generations that extend should talk about it.” Pant was injured as he was trying a reverse scan of Chris Woakes, and the ball deflected on his ankle and his right foot. India did not confirm the extent of the injury at the time, but it was replaced as a counter by Dhruv Jurel for the rest of the match.
