The Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) shared an update on Rishabh Pant on Sunday and also revealed the team for the fifth and last test between England and India, which should be played in the oval. “Rishabh Pant, who suffered a fracture at his right foot during the fourth test against England in Manchester, was excluded from the fifth and last test of the series,” the BCCI said in a statement. “The BCCI medical team will continue to follow their progress, and the team wishes them rapid recovery.” Tamil Nadu Nadu Narayan Jagadeesan was announced as a pant’s replacement. “The male selection committee appointed Narayan Jagadeesan to replace Rishabh Pant for the fifth test, which begins on July 31, 2025 in Kennington Oval, London.” India coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed Pant’s injury for the first time after the visitors recovered a draw during the fourth test at Old Trafford on Sunday. Pant retired the first day when he was withdrawn from the ground on a cart with his seriously inflated foot, but he returned – an affirmation – day 2 to have half a century.
“It was said that he is out of the series, and one thing I mean is that the character and the foundation of this team will be built on something Rishabh has done for the team and for the country as well,” said Gambir. βAny praise is not enough for him, especially for the striker with a broken foot. “I think that generations to come will talk about it, and the generations that extend should talk about it.” Pant was injured as he was trying a reverse scan of Chris Woakes, and the ball deflected on his ankle and his right foot. India did not confirm the extent of the injury at the time, but it was replaced as a counter by Dhruv Jurel for the rest of the match.
According to reports Pant suffered knee injury during practice session. The medical team doing MRI scan and physio assessment. KS Bharat will most likely replace him as wicketkeeper for Oval test. India also have Ishan Kishan in squad as backup option if needed.
Again BCCI hiding information from fans!! Why they not tell us complete details about pant injury?? This is not fare with us who support team always. We have right to know everything about our players condition.
Everyone overreacting here. Injuries are part of game and every team face this problem. Rather than blaming BCCI we should support whoever play in pant place. KS Bharat or Ishan both are capable players and deserve chance. Let see what happen in oval, india still have strong squad to win match.
This is very sad news for indian cricket team. Rishabh is our best keeper batsman and without him our batting look very weak. Hope he recover soon and come back stonger. BCCI should take proper care of him and dont rush his return.
Good news that BCCI finally giving update. Many fan was worried about pant condition since yesterday. Hope the injury not serious and he can recover in few days time. Our prayers with rishabh pant! π
This injury concern me lot. If pant miss oval test than our chances of winning series become less. He was in good form and his counter attacking style troubling english bowlers very much.
Wow such detailed information from BCCI as always π ‘here is the update team’ – which update team?? Maybe they forget to write full sentence lol
Oh great! Just when we needed him most, our star player gets injured. What perfect timing! I’m sure this was all part of the master plan to make the series more ‘interesting’. Thank you BCCI for this wonderful update. π
At this rate indian team should just wrap players in bubble wrap before matches π First Bumrah now Pant… maybe we should hire better fitness coach or teach players how to walk without getting injured haha. But seriously hope Rishabh get well soon we need him!
People saying pant is irreplaceable but i think thats wrong. KS Bharat is equally good keeper maybe even better than pant in keeping skills. Yes pant batting is aggressive but test cricket need patience not just hitting. Bharat can do better job in england condition.
