Sai Sudharsan, who had been standing for India during the first rounds with a 61 gravelly, endured a nightmare moment on day 4 of the fourth test at Old Trafford while he fell for a golden duck in the second round in India. His dismissal, strangely similar to that of ten years ago, brought back memories of the release of Gautam Gambir’s first ball in 2014 to the oval.

By continuing the deficit, India underwent a catastrophic beginning. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the first to leave, falling in love with a duck on the fourth ball of the sleeves of Chris Woake. Passing through Sudharsan, who was to anchor the sleeves alongside Kl Rahul. However, the hopes of reconstruction have been destroyed almost instantly.Faced with Woakes, Sudharsan supports his arms to a delivery that has just raised enough to take the lower edge of his bat. The ball flew for the second blow when Harry Brook finished a sharp socket, leaving India in shock at 0 for 2.The mode of dismissal and its calendar in a high pressure series have a striking resemblance to an episode of the Indian tour of England in 2014. At the time, during the oval fifth test, the senior opener Gautam Gambir was dismissed during the very first ball he faced, trying to leave a delivery by James Anderson who cut the edge and was caught by Jos Buttler. This match ended with an overwhelming defeat for India, in a round and 244 points, and England won the series at five 3-1 tests. Now in Manchester, India is found in an equally disastrous strait. With two lost counters, the team faces a gigantic task to save the test and keep the hopes of the series alive.
Why we always comparing new players with legends? Let Sudharsan make his own path. Gambhir was different player different era different team compostion. This kind of pressure from media and fans not helping anyone
For those who dont know – Gambhir also got out for golden duck at Old Trafford in 2007 but then he scored centuries later in the series. The venue has some weird history with Indian batsmens first balls. Interesting pattern if you look at the statistics over last 15 years.
Oh great another comparison with past! Every time someone fails we bring up old stories. Maybe focus on present and give the guy chance to prove himself??
Old Trafford and golden ducks – name more iconic duo!! Next time Indian team should do puja before batting there 😄 Maybe the pitch is cursed or something
Fantastic start! Really showing world class skills there. I’m sure selectors are very impressed with that golden duck performance 👏👏
This is exacly what happens wen you dont have experiance at international level. Sai Sudharsan needs more domestic matches before jumping to big stage like this
Lol another golden duck! History repeating itself but atleast Gambhir went on to became legend after that.. lets see if Sudharsan can do same 😂
This young man has lot of potential. One bad ball doesnt define a career, remember even Sachin had golden ducks in his time.
