Drawer No. 5 of Great Britain beaten the seeded n ° 10 Lorenzo Musetti of Italy 6-3, 7-6 (4) in the first match in the semi-finals. The 14th Norwegian Ruud seeded then returned the seeded n ° 20 Francisco Cerundolo d’Argentine 6-4, 7-5.
Draper’s victory only added the best season of his young career. The 23 -year -old won the Masters of the Indian Wells in March. It is guaranteed to get into the top five in the world ranking for the first time next week.
He won 38 of the 49 points at the first service (77.6%) against Musetti. Draper had 19 winners and 19 uncomposed errors, while his opponent managed 22 winners but made 25 unl forced mistakes.
Draper now 4-0 against Musetti.
“I both felt, our quality did not really drop from the first ball,” said Draper after the match. “Credit in Lorenzo, he obviously plays so well on clay. I played it hard and on the grass when we were junior, growing with him. But on the clay, he is a different beast, so to obtain this victory on this court at this stage, the semi-finals, it means so much for me.”
Speaking of competence on Clay, it is not surprising that Ruud, 26, is able to capture the biggest title of his career. He reached consecutive French finals in 2022 and 2023 and was also at a trophy victory at 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters. Eleven of his 12 ATP victories came to Clay.
Ruud struck four aces and saved 15 of the 18 break points against Cerundolo while winning 5 of the 9 breakdown opportunities. In the second set, he fell behind 4-3, but rallied to win four of the last five games in the match.
Ruud also revealed that he was playing through pain in his coast, for which he received three games in the match.
“I was not sure that I was going to be able to finish the match, honestly,” said Ruud. “I felt something in my coast during the warm -up, just towards the end before going out (on the ground), and I felt it in almost every time, especially the service. …
“I had some pain relievers, which is not the ideal thing, but at the same time in a situation like this, you have to do it from time to time. I was able to play at one time. He got down and improved over the match.”
Draper and Ruud will compete on Sunday for the title.
