Jake Paul returns to the ring Saturday evening in front of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. during the main event of a Dazn boxing pay card in a cruise fight in Anaheim, California.
Paul, 28, participated for the last time in November, beating the former heavy goods vehicle champion Mike Tyson in a Netflix attraction.
Paul (11-1, 7 KB) did not kindly take the singeries of Chavez before their Thursday press conference. Chavez (54-6-1, 34 kos) had a shirt made to make fun of the native of Ohio, alongside a piece of paper predicting a decisive victory.
Aside from the game, Paul said it was grateful to face the stature of someone Chavez and awaits the best version of the Mexican icon.
“He’s a big fighter,” said Paul. “I like big names. I like legendary names. It is on my way to a world championship. It is a difficult test, a very, very difficult test, but I am here to challenge myself and do great things in this sport and then do a title after having beat it on Saturday.”
Chavez, 39, quickly discredited the history of Paul, keeping him short and simple.
“No, I don’t think it’s good,” said Chavez. “I think he tries (and) trains hard, but he is not a good fighter. If he was a good boxer, everyone on this scene would be a legend. Everyone knows it.”
Chavez planned to give himself an ultimatum: a possible retirement if he loses against Paul. Chavez remains extremely confident that he will be the first person to eliminate the former YouTube star.
“I am still preparing to win a victory,” said Chavez. “I’m here to win, that’s why I’m very confident that I will win the victory.”
Meanwhile, Paul went so far as to predict how he would prevail on Saturday evening.
“I’m going to knock him out. This is what I came here to do,” said Paul. “The first round is going to be early. It will be a right hook right away and I come back early. We are not paid for overtime. It will be a spectacular performance.”
Paul and Chavez should start after 11 pm, concluding a seven fighting card.
