England star Joe Root, in a conversation with Harsha Bhogle for Sony Sports, thought about his admiration for Sachin Tresulkar, a light moment during his first tour in India, and his current place among the big crickets. An old Root’s Tweet from 2013 recently surfaced, where he wrote, “Sachin made his debut for India before my birth. Then I played when I started in the test. #Thankyousachin. “ Speaking now, Root shared: “Sachin is one of the grown -ups. What he achieved with the pressure he was was just phenomenal.

He also recalled a moment of the tour in India in 2012 which left him amazed. “Pujara had marked a double a hundred in the first test. In the next one, he went out early and the whole crowd started to applaud. I did not understand it first, then I realized that it was because Sachin came to beat. It was weird but showed how loved and legendary.”

Root recently went to the second row on the list of test hikers of all time, exceeding Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting during his superb 150 in Manchester against India. Now on 13,409 points, there are 2,512 behind the total tendulkar record of 15,921.

Do you believe that Joe Root can exceed the Sachin Tendulkar record?

Describing the moment, Root said: “It’s a moment of pinching. Growing up, I used to pretend to be Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara or Brian Lara in my garden or my local club. Just to see my name next to theirs is pretty cool. ” Asked about the possibility of hunting tendulkar, he played it. “This is not something that I will focus on. These things should take care of themselves. The goal must be to win matches.” Root recognized the noise around his milestones but added: “The figures are everywhere, right?” But you are trying not to get caught up. You don’t do your job if you only think of yourself.

  1. Root is good no doubt. But can we stop comparing every batsman to Sachin? Different eras, different conditions, different pressures. Sachin carried the weight of billion people on his sholders every match.

  2. Lets be honest here, Root is nowhere near Sachin level. Sachin played agaisnt much tougher bowlers and in diffrent conditions. Modern cricket is to easy for batsmen with all these flat pitches and rules favouring them.

  3. Oh sure, because growing up wanting to be like Sachin automatically makes you entitled to his records right? This is just PR talk before breaking someones record. Where was all this ‘respect’ when England was beating India last year?

  4. Wow such humble words from Root. This is how legends should be treated, with respect and admiration. Wishing him all the best to reach his goals!

  5. Intresting stat: Root averages 50.34 in Tests while Sachin averaged 53.78. However Root has played less matches in Asia which typically favour spiners and are harder for English batsmen. Also worth noting that Root’s conversion rate of 50s to 100s has improved significantly in last 3 years which is why hes closing the gap so fast now.

  6. Root has been consistant for over a decade now. People forget he’s been Englands best batsman in all three formats for years. Sure Sachin is a legend but Root has earned his place among the greats to. Stop living in the past and apreciate current greatness!

  7. For those who dont know, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for most test runs (15,921) and centuries (51) in Test cricket. He played 200 Tests over 24 years. Root currently has around 12,000+ runs and needs about 3,900 more to break it. At his current form, its definately possible but will take atleast 2-3 more years.

  8. So he ‘rents’ Sachin now? What does that even mean lol. Did the editor even read this headline before publishing? Anyway, Root is a class act and if anyone deserves to break records its him. Been carrying England batting for years now without much support.

  9. Amazing to see Joe Root showing such respect to the legend Sachin! This is what cricket is all about, honouring the greats who came before. Root has been phenomenal himself and deserves to break every record he can. True sportmanship at its finest.

  10. Another day another article about someone approaching Sachins record. Wake me up when it actualy happens.
