MCA responds to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s wish; The star opener will play for Mumbai and not Goa

After NOC U-Curn, Yashasvi Jaiswal recommends that the team at home for the 2025-26 season

In a welcome turn of events, India’s rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal will continue to represent Mumbai in domestic cricket for the 2025–26 season. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed that it has accepted Jaiswal’s request to withdraw his earlier No Objection Certificate (NOC) to move to Goa.

Jaiswal to continue for Mumbai

Yashasvi has always been a proud product of Mumbai cricket,” said MCA president Ajinkya Naik in an official statement. “We have accepted Jaiswal’s withdrawal NOC application and he will be available for Mumbai in the forthcoming domestic season.”

Back in April, Jaiswal’s decision to seek an NOC to represent Goa had surprised many. Speculation swirled about personal reasons and even an alleged fallout with Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane. However, in a detailed email to the MCA last month, Jaiswal clarified that his family’s plan to shift to Goa had been shelved, continuing his desire to stay with Mumbai. He also assured the board that the NOC had not been submitted to either the BCCI or the Goa Cricket Association.

Jaiswal, 23, has been associated with Mumbai since his U-19 days. He made his first-class debut for the team in 2019 and has since built an impressive domestic record — 863 runs in 10 matches at an average of 53.93, including four centuries. In all first-class cricket, he has amassed 3,712 runs at an average of 60.85.

Despite missing out on the Ranji Trophy semi-final this past season due to an ankle injury, Jaiswal remains a superstar for Mumbai, that too, in a star-studded team. Currently with India’s Test squad in England, Jaiswal began the series strongly with a century at Leeds, though it came in a losing cause. While his fielding in the slips has come under scrutiny after a few costly drops, the Indian team management continues to back him, with coaches working on both his technique and confidence.
