The Cubs of Chicago visiting their fourth consecutive victory when they play Washington Nationals in the intermediate match of their series on Wednesday evening.
Chicago took the opening of the 8-3 series and won 13 of its last 16 games. Washington lost two in a row after winning four games in a row.
Michael Busch finished Tuesday’s match a shy double of the cycle, going 3 for 4 with a walk, three products produced and two points scored for the Cubs.
The left-hander of Chicago, Matthew Boyd (5-2, 3.08 ERA) opposes the left-hander of Washington Mackenzie Gore (2-5, 3.16) on Wednesday.
Aside from a Clunker against the Reds of Cincinnati on May 25 (four points deserved in four rounds), Boyd granted three points deserved or less in each of his departures and has not taken defeat since April 25.
The last time, Boyd made six rounds in a victory against the Colorado rockies, granting an unprecedented race on four strokes while removing eight without a walk.
“Matt was great,” said manager Craig Counsell. “His change was a huge field today. He really used it. I got a lot of withdrawals. Credit at (receiver Carson Kelly) to look into large places. Just a good game overall.”
Boyd won his only previous departure against Washington, abandoning three points in 5 2/3 innings on May 19, 2023.
Gore, meanwhile, leads the national league to the stick (101) and only walked 21 throat in 68 1/3 sleeves.
During his last two departures, Gore gave a point in 12 rounds. He launched six sleeves aimlessly on four sure in a decision without a decision against the Seattle Mariners on May 29. He withdrew eight without a walk and left with an advance of 2-0 after launching jam in the sixth.
“You don’t want people to mark. It’s 2-0, a very close match,” said Gore. “You also understand at the time that a battle of the bat can take the lead, so you don’t want to look too far – and we did a fairly good job, and we got out of it.”
Tuesday evening, as was often the case, the Cubs were offended from various sources.
Pete Crow-Armstrong went 1 for 3 with a double, two stolen bases, two balls on balls and two points scored. With its 20th flight of the season, it has become the fourth faster of the main Leagistes in the modern era (since 1900), according to MLB.com, to record 15 circuits and 20 stolen bases in one season, reaching brands in just 60 games. It was his second consecutive match with two interceptions.
“The use of my sporting capacity is always pleasant,” said Crow-Armstrong. “And being able to do things like that is great, but everything in the right kind of circumstances. So, if I make the right games at the right time and it’s not flashy, so good – that’s always like I would like to do my business.”
Chicago played Tuesday without the Kyle Tucker aerobatman, which is daily with a stuck finger.
Luis Garcia Jr. had three strokes for Washington, who had a tracks of 1-0 and 3-1.
“It was a strange match,” said manager Dave Martinez. “Some errors on defense. And then, really, a round are the walks. The walks made us (fifth round), then a base. So we have to come back tomorrow, try to eliminate all of this.”
