“No sheep or pizza”: how Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14

Rajasthan Royals found a new star in the form of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, in the match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against the Super Giants of Lucknow on Saturday. Although the match led to a defeat for the Vaibhav franchise, he drew the attention of many in the cricket world with his fast shot of 34 points on 20 balls. The striker began his IPL career with a six on the bowling of Shardul Thakur, during the very first delivery he faced.

Purchased for costs of 1.1 crores inr by Rajasthan Royals in the mega auction last year, Suryavanshi was maintained in a strict diet in order to better prepare for life in IPL.

“Mutton Naha Khana Hai Usko, Hain Instructions. Pizza Hata Diya Hai Uske Dietetics Chart Mein [Mutton is not allowed for him as per the instructions. Pizza has been removed from his diet chart]. He just likes chicken and sheep. He’s a child, so he really liked pizza. But he doesn’t eat it anymore. When we gave him sheep, no matter how much we have given, he would finish everything. This is why he looks a little joufflu, “his coach Manish Ojha told Times of India.

Coach Ojha considers the left -hander Vaibhav as a mixture of Yuvraj Singh and Brian Lara, saying that his assault is quite similar to India winning India winning the World Cup.

“He will go very far. We have seen the way he started the sleeves, and I can promise you – he will get a big score in the games to come.”

“He is an intrepid striker. He has repeatedly said that he admires Brian Lara. But it is a mixture of Yuvraj Singh and Brian Lara. His assault is like that of Yuvraj,” he added.

On the eve of the match against Lucknow, Vaibhav experienced the form of head coach Rahul Dravid that he will make his IPL debut on Saturday. The 14 -year -old called his coach and said clearly, he would hit the ball as a maximum if such delivery came. Taking a single is not on lucrative deliveries will not be its position, even at a stage like IPL.

“He was very happy. He called me after his training session yesterday and said (Rahul) Dravid Sir and the direction called him and told him that he would play against Lucknow Super Giants. He was delighted. But was tense. I said to be calm and play as you were. He said Chakke Waala Ayega in Maranga, Rukunga Nahi. [if the ball asks to be hit for a six, won’t hesitate]”Said the coach.

“He is a child. He is emotional. He always talks about Rahul Dravid Sir and his support. He looks at him like a god. Dravid Sir is still there to support him,” said the coach. “He always says, “Jab Chakka Maarne Ka Ball Aayega, in Chakka Hi Maarunga. Single Leke Kya Karunga? (When there is a ball to knock for six, I’m going to hit a six. What will I do with a single?). Let me tell you an incident. During training sessions, I generally give a striker a hypothetical situation and I attribute some quieurs to challenge it – for example, you need 40 points in 4 overs, or 60 in 6 overs. This guy often intervenes and ends up reaching the target with losing bullets, “shared the coach.
