The best quarter of NFL will not represent the United States when Football Flag is introduced to the Olympic Games in 2028.
“I will probably leave that to the youngest,” said Patrick Mahomes, via Henry McKenna from Fox Sports. “I will be a little older when it happens.”
When the 2028 Olympic Games arrive, Mahomes will be 32 years old. It is not as if it is a fossil. He will prepare for his 12th NFL season, but some fans have stressed that summer matches will probably overlap and interfere with the training camp.
Earlier in May, NFL owners voted unanimously to allow players to participate in the Olympic Games. The NBA has long allowed its players to represent the United States, and Major League Baseball supports the World Baseball Classic.
Having already played in five super bowls and winning three, it is difficult to imagine someone other than Mahomes as the face of American football, even in three years. He is already a MVP twice and would be adjusted for a gold jacket if he decided to move away today.
This is what will make his absence from the 2028 Olympic Games is a little strange. LeBron James represents the United States at the Olympic Games for years, just like Michael Jordan and the famous dream team in decades of domination before. They were the faces of basketball and very well represented their country.
To be fair, James sat down at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games. We all know how seriously he takes his training, his rehabilitation and his packaging – it is credible that jumping some of these games is part of the reason why he always has a walk on his tires at 40.
Could Mahomes follow this same script? Preserve your body with more time inside the installations of the Kansas City chiefs while its peers are trying to win a gold medal in Los Angeles?
Maybe. But it is always difficult to understand exactly what the “young player” Mahomes starts with the responsibility of a quarter of our great nation.
The quarter of the Bengals of Cincinnati, Joe Burrow, will be the same age as Mahomas – 32. But he has already had injuries. The MVP reigning Josh Allen will also be 32 years old. Lamar Jackson, who could be really fun on a flag football field, will be 31 years old. The prevailing champion of Super Bowl Jalen Hurts will not even be 30 years old.
If Mahomes does not want to wear the flag of our big country, it may be fun to call Tom Brady, 50, to see what he left in this arm.
