The Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1 2025 finished the way he started on Sunday, the McLaren pair of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris finishing 1-2 to further build their command advance in the team’s classification.
Charles Leclerc de Ferrari finished third to catch the remaining podium on the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit. The quest for the third was the place where all the real drama occurred in the race.
Piastri, from Australia, was in command from the start, sacrificing the early advance after the first stops of the stands when the quadruple champion of F1 Max Verstappen caught the first.
Piastri took over while Verstappen de Red Bull, from the Netherlands, took the start of a second stop. The question at that time was whether Verstappen would take a third stand, which could give it a late tire edge in the race.
Verstappen did the third time for the third time, but any strategic advantage he could have was lost when Kimi Antonelli de Mercedes was forced to leave the track due to a problem with his car, with a deployed security car.
This returned the leaders to the stand at the stand, with Piastri and Norris, from Great Britain, still 1-2 with six laps to do. But Verstappen was exceeded by Leclerc on the restart, and Verstappen then tangled George Russell of Mercedes when they collided twice.
Verstappen was penalized for 10 seconds, the bump in 10th place, with Leclerc de Monaco finishing the third and Russell fourth.
Kick Sauber pilot, Nico Hulkenberg, from Germany, led a masterful race, finishing fifth after starting the 15th.
It was the fifth victory of the season for Piastri, who led the driver’s ranking with 186 points, followed by Norris (176) and Verstappen (137).
On the team side, McLaren has a huge advantage over Ferrari, 362 to 165 points.
