Kolkata Knight Riders has faced the instability of leadership in recent seasons, trying captains like Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana. Sanju Samson could offer a long -term captain’s position and also strengthen the role of ticket office in the team.

He led the team to the IPL 2022 final, where they were beaten by the Gujarat Titans (GT). However, RR missed the playoffs during the 2025 season. Samson was affected by injuries, Riyan Parag taking charge of the functions of captain in his absence.
Samson started the season as an impact player for the first three games. He was excluded on five games after suffering an abdominal injury in a match against Delhi capitals. The striker ended the season with 285 points at a solid average of 35.62 and a striking rate of 140.39, including half a century.
IPL trade window to stay open up to a week before the 2026 auction
The IPL Trade window opened its doors at the end of June and will remain active up to a week before the 2026 auction, allowing franchises to negotiate players for players or transactions.
Sanju Samson was retained by the Royals of Rajasthan for 18 crore ₹ before the 2025 mega auction. Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders would have planned to acquire it.
CSK is looking for a successor to Ms Dhoniwho is approaching the end of his career. Meanwhile, the Royals of Rajasthan have received several commercial proposals.
