After a strong start to the season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the Kings of Punjab faces a little headache to put their campaign on the right track. With two defeats in their last three games, the team led by Shreyas Iyer wishes to recover the momentum. While the franchise faces the reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a clear message was sent to the management of the Glenn Maxwell versatile Australia. Former New Zealand cricket player Simon Doull urged the skipper Shreyas Iyer and the Banc Maxwell coaches for the important match.
So far, Maxwell has had one of its typical stop campaigns, with almost no race from its bat. While he sometimes participated in a counter or two, Doull thinks there are better options to choose on the bench.
“I think Maxwell has had his race. I mean, just the way he comes out right now, that would frustrate me as a coach. This is the disappointing thing, I think, from their point of view. So, Omarzai is for him, Inglis for him, would be something that I would probably watch,” said Simon Doull before the game on Tuesday.
The Punjab Kings will be without the services of Lockie Ferguson against KKR, because the Kiwi Pace was excluded for the rest of the season due to an injury.
“A big loss for them to Lockie Ferguson. He launched two balls in this game. Remember now, it could have made a big difference in this pursuit of race. I think, you know, they had to go to Stoinis, they had to go to others, when they would probably have preferred the rhythm of Lockie through the middle. Wound of Ferguson.
