The Chicago Stars FC pulled the second-year head coach Lorne Donaldson after a start of 1-5-0.
Masaki Hemmi, the first assistant coach, was appointed acting coach on Wednesday. Hemmi is the fifth stars head coach – acting or permanent – since November 22, 2021.
“We are grateful to Lorne Donaldson for culture, respect and feeling of self -confidence that he helped build within our team,” said Richard Feuz, director general of the stars. “We appreciate his work and wish him the best for the future.”
The stars hired Donaldson, then 68 years old, in December 2023, hoping that the former head coach of the Jamaican national women’s team could transform a franchise that has not won a eliminatory match since 2021.
The team made the playoffs last season despite a 10-14-2 file, after finishing in the last place of the National Women’s Soccer League in 2023, and lost its first game against the head of Orlando Pride.
The stars are moving in the opposite direction of the eliminatory series this season, standing in last place with only three points.
During their first six games, the stars scored three goals and abandoned their only victory on April 13 during their Bay FC 2-1 defeat.
The stars will play the road on Sunday against Gotham FC (3-2-2, 11 points).
The team will play their first match without Donaldson on the road on Sunday against Gotham FC.
