Portland Trail Blazers head coach, Chauncey Billups accepted a multi-year contract extension, the team announced on Sunday morning.

The financial conditions of the agreement have not been disclosed for Billups, which conclude the last year guaranteed of its contract.

This decision comes six days after the Trail Blazers reached a multi -year extension with the Director General Joe Cronin.

“I would like to thank (president of Trail Blazers) Jody Allen, (vice-president) Bert Kolde and Joe Cronin for their belief in me while we are all progressing in this journey to create a supported winner for the coming years,” said Billups. “We are building this team in the right direction with a competitive culture in a defensive spirit, with a hard nose. I can’t wait to continue giving Rip City fans a product on the field of which they can be proud and to encourage each evening.”

Billups guided Portland to a record of 35-46 entering its final of the season against the Los Angeles Lakers visiting Sunday afternoon. Trail Blazers won only 21 games last season.

A member of the Naismith basketball renowned temple, Billups has a 116-211 record during his four seasons as trail Blazers trail. He replaced Terry Stotts, who took the Blazers to the playoffs during eight of his nine seasons as a coach.

“The heart of Chauncey leadership is its ability to build a state of mind of culture and collaborative growth for our young team,” said Allen. “We are very happy to extend his contract as a head coach, and delighted to see his work continuous to develop our players and transform this team into a long-term success.”

Billups, 48, was appointed MVP of the NBA final in 2004 while helping the Strait pistons under the League. He was quintuple All-Star during his career with the pistons, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks, from 1997 to 2014.
