Kelsey Mitchell scored 23 points while the short-term Indiana fever won her 3-point shot to an 85-76 victory against the Washington mystics visiting Tuesday evening.
Lexie Hull added 14 points and Aliyah Boston had 10 for the fever, who played without the injured guards Caitlin Clark, who missed her third consecutive match due to a tense left quad, and Sophie Cunningham, who was sidelined by a leg injury suffered during a defeat against Connecticut on Friday.
The fever (3-4) avenged a loss of six-point road against the mystics last Wednesday by making 11 of the 28 attempts of 3 points. Meanwhile, the mystics (3-5) went 1 for 10. Indiana produced six of its 3 points while exceeding Washington 31-21 in the third quarter to take control.
Kiki Iriafen collected 20 points and nine rebounds, Brittney Sykes scored 20 years, Sonia Lemon had 13 and Shakira Austin added 10 for the mystics.
Mitchell, Lexie Hull and Sydney Colson each made a 3-point while the Indiana began the third quarter with a burst of 13-7 to take an advance of 51-41. Another 3-point pointer by Hull pushed the advance at 58-45 before Sykes converted a three-point game.
The fever ended the third quarter on a race of 11-7 which left them an advance of 69-55.
Sykes collected eight points while Washington scored the first 12 of the fourth quarter to obtain in both. The Boston lay-up with 5:49 to go stopped.
The lemon lay-up with 3:42 on the left pulled the mystics at one point, but the fever scored the next six to restore an advantage of seven points with 1:28 to play.
At the beginning, Damiris Dantas made two points at 3 points during a 10-0 race which gave the Indiana an advance of 17-10. The Iriafen driving layup and the pair of baskets by Emily Engstler helped Washington to close in the 19-18 at the end of the first quarter.
The mystics scored the first four points of the second quarter before the Boston lay-up produced the first points of the fever. It was the first of the four consecutive goals on the ground for Boston, which gave the fever an advance of 27-26.
Washington scored the next six points before Dewanna Bonner and Mitchell each made a 3-point pointer during a closing race of 11-2 which gave the Indiana an advance of 38-34 at halftime.
