David Trist in the history of New Zealand Cricket!

A former rhythm launcher for Canterbury, Trist went to training with stays in South Africa, in Hong Kong and the Netherlands before resuming the national side in 1999, succeeding Steve Rixon. Although his mandate as New Zealand chief coach has only lasted two years, Trist has left a lasting heritage.

Under his direction, the Black Caps won the KO ICC in Nairobi by beating India in the final – Chris Cairns sealed the victory with a century winner of the match. This remained the only victory of the ICC for New Zealand for more than two decades before the team led by Kane Williamson did not beat India in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) in 2021.

Displaying his international coach career, Trist has remained involved in the game as coach director of the former Cricket College of Christchurch and also contributed his expertise in India and England. The New Zealand cricket paid tribute to him, saying that he was “deeply saddened” by his death and offered his condolences to his family and friends.
