
The right -hander of Boston, Lucas Giolito, made his first beginning of his career against the team that drafted him when the Red Sox open a series of three games at the Washington Nationals on Friday.
Giolito (4-1, 3.99 ERA) opposes the right-hander Michael Soroka (3-5, 4.70 ERA) in the traditional Washington match at 11:05 am.
The Nationals made Giolito the 16th overall selection of the 2012 project. He quickly underwent a Tommy John operation to repair an injured elbow ligament, but finally made his major league debut for Washington in June 2016.
He went 0-1 with an MPM of 6.75 and that December was part of a package sent to the Chicago White Sox for the Voltigeur Adam Eaton, which was an important part of the 2019 World team in Washington.
Giolito signed with Boston in January 2024 but missed last season due to right elbow surgery. He enters Friday 3-0 with an MPM of 0.72 in his last four departures and the subject of commercial rumors if the Red Sox fall in the running.
“I don’t want to be exchanged,” Giolito told Masslive.com this week. “I really love it here. I want to help this team win games until the end. I’m really shooting for us here.”
Soroka, meanwhile, comes out of one of her strongest performance of the season. On June 28, he held the Los Angeles Angels to a race on two strokes in six rounds in a decision without a decision, because Washington finally lost 7-2.
“I think everyone wants to fight for this team,” said Soroka. “I think this organization goes in the right direction. It’s just a round here and a lot of times.”
Soroka will make her first beginning of a career against Boston after a previous appearance in relief.
Thursday evening, James Wood succeeded in five strokes, including a Home Run, Paul Dejong added an explosion of three points and the Nationals hung on to defeat the Detroit Tigers 11-7, taking the rubber game of the series.
Alex Call succeeded three shots and rolled three points for Washington, who won three of the four. The day he was appointed to participate in the derby, Wood had four simple, scored three points and rolled in half.
During his last 22 games, Wood hits 0.361 (30 for 83) with seven circuits, 22 products produced and 20 points scored.
“James continues to amaze us,” said Dejong. “The way he manages his business and the way he plays the game. He has such an advantage mentally. You might not see him physically, but you know in his head, he is an absolute competitor and he shows all the size he can make.”
The director of nationals, Dave Martinez, won his 500th match.
The Red Sox blew an advance of 4-3 seventh round during a defeat of 8-4 against the Reds of Cincinnati on Wednesday.
Wilyer Abreu struck a two -point home run and Romy Gonzalez led two points for the Red Sox, who took two of the three of the Reds. Boston granted four not deserved points on two errors on Wednesday evening and entered Thursday with nine additional errors (72) that the team of the Next Closed American League.
