The long -standing dispute between the majority owner of the Royals of Rajasthan Badale manoj and former co -owner Raj Kundra broke out in a high -level legal confrontation, badale accusing KUndra of blackmail at the High Court of London. The case focuses on KURAND’s lost minority participation in the Premier Indian League (IPL) Franchise, controversies reviving that followed the team since the Paris scandal in 2015.
Context of the dispute between Manoj Badale and Raj Kundra
Manoj Badale, a venture capital based in London whose emerging media ventures holds a 65% stake in Rajasthan’s husband, continues the husband of Bollywood actress, Shilpa Shetty Scandal which led to the two -year suspension of the Royals – he was misleading and defrauded the true value of his shares.
Blackmail allegations
The legal proceedings took a spectacular turn after the Badale legal team, led by Adam Speker, accused Kundra of having tried to blackmail badale by threatening to report serious allegations to the Indian authorities. According to judicial files, KURAND sent an e-mail not asked to Badale last month, alleging that he had been “Driven and defrauded the legitimate value of my 11.7%participation” And declaring that he had already filed a complaint with the Indian authorities. Kundra has also threatened to degenerate the case from the Cricket Control Commission in India (BCCI), unless an agreement has been concluded for the restoration of its equity or its original remuneration reflecting the current evaluation of the franchise.
In the same communication, KURAND suggested that it was open to discussions involving financial compensation, but also warned of publishing evidence of presumed financial misconduct and irregular transactions involving a key promoter of the Royals of Rajasthan. On social networks, Kundra alluded to imminent revelations concerning financial fault and money laundering through offshore structures, intensifying public control over the franchise.

Judicial acts and responses
The Badale legal team quickly responded by obtaining a provisional injunction against KURAND on May 30, preventing him from rape the 2019 regulations or to make derogatory declarations on badale or the franchise. In court, the Badale lawyer described the threats of Kundra as a clear attempt at blackmail, designed to force a favorable settlement.
KURAND, represented by lawyer William McCormick, denied any reprehensible act and said he had been informed of certain facts on the applicants. He maintains that if these facts are false, “In due time, he will be exposed.” KURAND’s legal team admitted that the injunction should remain in place until a full trial, but stressed that this does not constitute an admission of guilt.
The case has rekindled a debate on the governance and transparency of IPL franchises, in particular given the turbulent history of the Royals Rajasthan. The team, which won the inaugural IPL in 2008 and has since become one of the most precious brands in the league, has faced repeated controversies involving its ownership structure and its compliance with the league regulations.
