The co -owner of New York Jets, Woody Johnson, bought a 43% stake in Crystal Palace FC, confirmed the Premier League club on Monday.
Johnson signed a legally binding contract to buy the participation of the American businessman John Textor in the club, with several points of sale reporting the value of the agreement to $ 254 million.
“Although the completion is awaiting approval of the Premier League and the female Super League, we do not envisage any problem and we are delighted to welcome Woody as a partner and director of the club,” added Crystal Palace in a statement.
The Crystal Palace, based south of London, is controlled by President Steve Parish and American investors Josh Harris and David Blitzer.
The sale could open the way to Crystal Palace, the Champions of the FA Cup 2024-25, to compete in the UEFA Europa League for next season.
The club has not yet been erased because the Eagle Football Holdings group in Textor also has a majority interest in the French side Lyon. There are UEFA rules that prevent two teams that have the same property from competing with the same event.
Johnson, 78, bought the jets in 2000 and was an American ambassador to the 2017-21 United Kingdom in the first term of President Donald Trump. He made a failed attempt to buy the Chelsea Premier League club in 2022.
