Window Urvil PatelOne of IPL 2025’s surprise artists opened its doors on the offers of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) the same day. Urvil revealed how he had to make a difficult decision that finally saw him put on the yellow jersey.
Urvil entered the 2025 IPL auction with a basic price of 30 Lakhs INR, but has become unsold items despite a formidable race in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, where he broke two centuries, including a 28 ball ball, the fastest T20 ton by an Indian. Previously, being part of the Gujarat titans in 2023 (without making an appearance of a game), the right -handed striker was again on the sidelines after the mega auction.
However, halfway through IPL 2025, Vanseh Bedi of CSK was excluded due to an injury, which led to the signing of CSK Patel for the rest of the season. By coincidence, RCB also approached the cricket player in potential replacement of the wounded Devdutt Padikkal.
“When I learned about this, I was very excited because I remember that there were two good news for me the same day. I first received a RCB call that Devdutt Padikkal could have been injured. So, they were looking for a replacement. So they called me first, but they did not confirm if they chose me. They asked me to come for a test of 15 days.”
I wanted my father to meet Mahi Bhai: Urvil
However, an hour later, CSK and Scout AR Srikkanth analyst contacted Urvil with a more concrete proposal.
“After an hour, I received a call from CSK. Srikanth, Sir, from Scouting called me and I said they considered me a replacement player. So be ready. So I was confused. I said:” Sir, RCB also called me. “He said they were sure of my inclusion in the team.
Although CSK was not qualified for the playoffs in 2025 and ended at the bottom of the table, Urvil’s performance attracted significant attention. He presented in three games and scored 68 points at a strike rate of 212.5, helping CSK winning two of these games.
He notably convinced his father to attend an IPL game not only to see his son play, but to meet the legendary skipper MS Dhoni.
“My parents hesitate to look at me playing. I told my father whether you watch the match or not, I want you to meet Mahi Bhai. My father then came to watch the match because of him,” he added.
