New Delhi: Indian cricket legend Virender Sehwag issued a solid advice at 14 Vaibhav SuryavanshiWho quickly became one of the most discussed talents of the IPL of this season.
In a recent appearance on Cricbuzz, Sehwag did not hold back. “If you go out knowing that you will be rented for having successfully succeeded and criticized for not having succeeded well, you will stay in the ground,” he said.
“I have seen many players who come, go to one or two games, so they do nothing because they think they have become a star player.”

Suryavanshi, who marked the story by becoming the youngest to have obtained an IPL contract at Rs 1.1 crore, has already turned out to be promising, breaking two six in its beginnings and marking 50 points at a strike rate of 156.25 in two matches.
But Sehwag warned that it was only the beginning.
Quiz: Who is this IPL player?
“Look at Virat Kohli. He started at 19 and has now played the 18 IPL seasons,” said Sehwag. “This is what Vaibhav should aim. But if he thinks he did just because he hit a six on his first ball and won a crore, he might not be there next season.”
The Royals of Suryavanshi failed against Royal Challengers Bengaluru Thursday, despite an opening stand of 52 points with Yashasvi Jaiswal. RCB, powered by half-century of Virat Kohli (70 deactivated 42) and Devdutt Padikkal (50 out of 27), displayed 205/5 and held the Royals in 194/9.

Kohli’s performance pushed it to the second place on the list of the best passers -by of the season, another sign of long -term coherence to which Séhwag was referring.
Sehwag’s message is clear: talent can open the door, but the stay is built over the years.
