Vancouver’s Whitecaps have taken over the guaranteed contract of Damir Kreilach attacker.
The Croatian, 36, will no longer occupy a senior list place, and his salary will not count against the club’s wage budget.
“Damir has been an exceptional leader and mentor in recent years and a half years,” sports director Axel Schuster said on Friday. “Many of our young players, who are now making their brand in MLS, were so well prepared thanks to its stable presence and support in the locker room.
“We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have worked with Damir and him, as well as his family, all the best in the future.”
Kreilach contributed a goal in four games (no departures) this season with Vancouver. His two -year total with the Whitecaps included three goals in 21 games (six departures).
Kreilach accumulated 47 goals in 151 mLS matches (133 departures) with Real Salt Lake from 2018-23. MLS 2021 stars career totals in all competitions include 60 goals and 20 assists in 199 appearances.
Each MLS club is authorized two buyouts per season.
