Mayank Yadav replaced Shardul Thakur in Lucknow’s Super Giants (LSG) playing Xi against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede stadium on Sunday.
After a prolonged rehabilitation at the Cricket In India (BCCI) Center of Excellence (Coe) control council, Pace Sensation Mayank Yadav joined LSG on April 16, but had to wait before returning.
Captain Rishabh Pant won the draw and chose to first appear against the Mumbai Indians.
“We are marked first. We think that the counter is always on the side of the striker. It is a day game. We want to use the slightly drier conditions under the sun. This will be better for the striker during the second rounds,” he said during the draw.
“We are in a good space, and personally, it is easier to advance the team, which makes it easier. Certainly, it feels good. Personally, I don’t think about it too much. We take every day like a new day.
“Just a change. Instead of Shardul, Mayank enters.”
The last Mayank competition match was back in October 2024 when he appeared in the T20i against the Bangladesh in Hyderabad. He has been out of service since then because of a back injury.
Who is this IPL player?
His return was still delayed by an injury to the toes during his stay at the Coe.
With history of injury problems – up to five stress fractures in the past two years – the LSG camp has worked with caution with regard to Mayank.

Even in the 2024 edition of IPL, he only played four games and was excluded for the rest of the season due to a secondary tension.
On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians have brought two changes, bringing Karn Sharma to Mitchell Santner and the beginner Corbin Bosch for Vignesh Puthur.
