Why the IPL teams continue to support Glenn Maxwell? Here is why

Glenn Maxwell Meeting of the Kings of Punjab before the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the basic change did not coincide with a change of fortune with regard to its stick performance. The versatile has produced spectacular blows for the Australian team in recent years. However, his IPL record in the past two years is an embodiment of mediocrity.

To put things in perspective, Maxwell scored 52 points of 10 games in IPL 2024. He was released by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) before the mega this year auction. The 37-year-old man was then kept by the kings of Punjab for 4.20 INR, which is considerable in a mega-action, especially for a player who blown hot and cold during most of the seasons he played in the glorious league.

Maxwell has played in the tournament since IPL 2012. He only missed the 2019 edition of the tournament. Leaving this side edition, the born in Melbourne played at least 10 games in 10 of the 12 seasons he played in the event rich in cash. However, he had only three seasons during which he scored 400 points and more.

Since IPL 2024, Maxwell has played 15 rounds in the format and has scored 100 points at an appalling average of 6.67. Although he is renowned for his big sure shots and his approach to a blooming shot, Maxwell has only managed to strike 108.69 during this period. Its figures, however, for Australia in the shortest format since March 2024, are much better. He scored 196 points of eight rounds at an average of 28.00 and a striking rate of 148.48.

So why do IPL teams continue to persist with Glenn Maxwell?

Players like Maxwell can inspire fear in opposition, even when they are below and outside. A good round can help him rediscover his lost contact in IPL. RCB hoped for such resurgence until last season, and PBKs are in the same position during the current season. Despite its lean patch, the captains tend to keep some of their best what elsewhere in the bank, so that they can be used to send the faithful packaging. These kinds of things make things easier for other strikers because they can face the questions that are not as threatening as launchers.

Another reason could be Maxwell’s versatile capacities. In addition to being a defensive player, even at the age of 37, Maxwell is much more than a part -time spinner. He has the strange talent to collect important counters and break partnerships. Last season, he won six counters at an average of 21.50 and an economic rate of 8.06 in the IPL. In IPL 2025, he represented four counters, with an average of 27.50 and conceding races at an economic rate of 8.46.
