Joe Root became the 2nd run-detained leader of the tests while England has stacked misery on the Indian attack in Manchester

India are staring at a potential innings defeat after yet another sorry performance on Day 3 of the IND vs ENG 4th Test. Joe Root blasted through records in a historic Manchester day, while Ben Stokes and Ollie Pope took England to a mammoth 544/7 at Stumps. India’s bowling suffered, with some questionable captaincy from Shubman Gill.

India’s day was summed up when Jasprit Bumrah ran to the dressing room for emergency meeting after just a single over spell. He tripped on his way back, hurting his ankle. India looked bereft of plans and ideas, as England inched closer to clinching the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Joe Root behind Sachin Tendulkar for most Test runs

Joe Root needed 30 more runs in Manchester to climb up to 3rd spot in the list. The 34-year-old with 13259 runs in 156 Tests, while Rahul Dravid (13288) is 4th, with Jacques Kallis one ahead with 13,289. Root was unbeaten on 11 at the end of Day 2 and made the milestone a formality in the early stages of Day 3. He continued his blistering with another ton, adding to his stellar record in Manchester. The 34-year-old leapfrogged Ricky Ponting in the process. The former Australian captain scored 13378 in 168 Tests. His 38th Test ton saw him jump to 2nd, only behind Sachin Tendulkar.

  1. Another day another collapse for Indian bowling. When will they learn? The tactics are all wrong and the execution even worse. This Manchester pitch suited our bowlers perfectly but we just dont have the skill level.

  2. HAHA Joe Root really said ‘hold my tea’ and proceeded to absolutely destroy that bowling attack. Stokes was like ‘wait for me mate’ and joined the party. Meanwhile Indian bowlers practicing their autograph skills for all the boundries they gave away!

  3. Honestly this match is already over. India cant come back from this kind of defecit against an England side playing with such confidance. Time to focus on the next test and regroup.

  4. Sure, lets keep bowling the same length and expect differnt results. Indias strategy today was basically the definition of insanity. No plan B, no adjustments, just hope and prayer. Embarassing really.

  5. Did anyone else notice how India kept bowling short when both batsmen where clearly comfortable with the pull shot? The field placements were also questionable – too many gaps in the off side. Root exploited this repeatedly in his innings.

  6. People need to stop overreacting. Yes England played well today but its just one day of test cricket. India can still fight back if they bowl England out quick tommorow morning and then bat sensibly. The match isnt over yet folks.

  7. For those wondering about the stats: Root now averages 52.7 in Tests at Old Trafford while Stokes strike rate was phenominal today at over 85. India’s pace attack combined economy was above 4.5 runs per over which is simply not gonna cut it at this level of cricket.

  8. Absolutly brilliant performence from Stokes and Root! This is the kind of domination we expected from England. India’s bowlers had no answers today, completely outclassed in evry department.

  9. Everyone saying India had a poor day but lets be real – Englands batting was just superior. You cant blame the bowlers when two world class batsmen are in this kind of form, they made maybe 1 or 2 mistakes maximum.

  10. Oh yes, another ‘poor day’ for India. Because clearly it has nothing to do with England actually playing well. Must be nice to always have excuses ready.
