The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) officially approached the Cricket Control Council in India (BCCI), requesting a review of the Eden of Kolkata Gardens as a place for the IPL 2025 final. Initially planned to welcome the grand final on May 25, Eden Gardens lost its accommodation rights after the tournament suspension for nine days due to geopolitical tensions. The final was then postponed to June 3, which led the BCCI to reconsider the place of confrontation at the top in the middle of concerns concerning rain forecasts.

After the suspension, the BCCI announced that the remaining matches of the League stadium would be organized on six sites, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Although the places in the playoffs have not yet been finalized, Kolkata has been sidelined due to potential meteorological concerns.

After the place announced, CAB contacted the Kolkata regional weather center, requiring an official meteorological prediction for June 3. However, the Met Office said that precise weather forecasts cannot be made as well in advance and that a reliable forecast would only be possible on May 25.

We have submitted all official documents: CAB

The CAB also contacted the Meteorological Department of India (IMD) in Delhi, to receive a similar response, all the documents having been submitted to the BCCI. CAB officials believe that the exclusion of Eden’s gardens on the basis of speculative weather conditions is unfair.

“We are convinced that things will work because we have done a very good job to organize everything. In addition, you cannot predict the weather conditions so early, and we have submitted all official documents for this purpose,” CAB said in a statement.

According to the Cricbuzz report, the The Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad is now the favorite to welcome the final and qualifying 2, given the lowest probability of precipitation in the city. Mumbai is also studying other matches in the playoffs, despite rain problems in early June. Meanwhile, the board of directors monitors forecasts in all pre -selected cities before finalizing the places of the playoffs.

The association believes that the decision is in the hands of the BCCI. However, if Kolkata lacks accommodation rights this season, it is possible that it is offset by crucial matches such as the semi-final or the ICC T20 World Cup final in February 2026.
