Washington Sundar should have been introduced earlier into the attack?

Sundar had an immediate impact once introduced, removing Ollie Pope for 71, then rejecting Harry Brook for only 3 points. The late double strike provided India a brief window on the game, but many wondered why the friendly was not used earlier – especially after taking 4/22 in the second rounds at Lord’s.

Speaking on Star Sports, Manjrekar did not chop his words: “So him [Gill] No Bowling Washington Sundar… and there is no plausible reason for him to bowl. I see this as a major red flag with Shubman Gill, you know, a line as a captain.Manjrekar also criticized Gill’s preference to stick to the sub-performative pacers on a track that clearly offered a turn, noting that he showed a lack of tactical conscience. The old English Stimulator Stuart Broad echoes Manjrekar’s feelings.“Everyone said: Where is Washington Sundar? Why don’t we see it? They are 300 people for two and we have not seen the guestrier who has 4 for 22 in the last heats of Lord’s,” Broad pointed out.India is now faced with an intimidating task on day 4, England being already firmly in control and that Joe Root’s Sparkling 150 ensuring that the hosts are on the right track for an online victory.

  1. Maybe Gill saving Washington for later sessions? Or maybe he tired from yesterday? But ya I agree he should have bowled atleast 2-3 more overs in morning session when ball was doing bit.

  2. Manjrekar should focus on his commentary skills first before pointing fingers at others lmao. Remember his “bits and pieces player” comment about Jadeja? 😅

  3. Fair point by Sanjay. Washington was getting good drift and bounce yesterday. Not using him enough today seems like tactical error.

  4. So according to Manjrekar, everything is a ‘red flag’ now? Tomorrow he’ll say team drinking water is red flag 😂

  5. I dont agree with Sanjay here. Gill is young captain learning the ropes. One match doesnt define captaincy skills. Give him time before judging so harshly!!

  6. This is exactly why young captains struggle!! Too much pressure from experts like Manjrekar who criticize every single decision. Let the boy captain his way and learn from mistakes if any. We cant have 10 armchair experts running team from commentary box.

  7. Major red flag is Manjrekar still getting commentary jobs after all his controversial statements over years 🤷‍♂️

  8. lol Manjrekar criticising everyone as usual. When was the last time he actually praised someone?? Guy has made career out of being negative commentator haha

  9. People need to understand the pitch conditions before commenting. Gill must have had his reasons for not bowling Washington more. The pitch was offering turn to right arm offspin more than left arm orthodox. Also weather conditions and field placements matter alot.

  10. Manjrekar is absolutely right! How can you not bowl Sundar when he was our best bowler yesterday?? This is poor captaincy from Gill and shows his inexperiance. India needs experienced captains not youngsters making such silly mistakes.

  11. Finally someone speaking truth! Sanjay sir has always been vocal about team selections and he’s spot on here. Washington deserved more overs today.

  12. Honestly speaking Sundar bowled well but pitch was assisting pacers more in that session. Maybe Gill wanted to capitalize on that? Not everything is red flag.
