New Delhi: India’s veteran drummer, Ajinkya Rahane, congratulated the young goalkeeper Dhruv Jurel for ensuring the responsibilities of a ticket guard during the fourth test against England after the vice-captain Rishabh Pant suffered an injury during the shot. The pants fractured its toe on day 1 of the fourth test at the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester.Rahane, who is currently in England, went to “X” (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Jurel for his performance, calling him one of the most difficult tasks of the game.“It is difficult to join as a counter in the middle of the game, but Dhruv Jurel intervened and did a really solid job. He full credit for him,” posted Rahane.Speaking further on the challenge, Rahane stressed the difficulty of adapting the match midfielder, in particular in English conditions.“When you sit outside, when you look at the match and suddenly have to get inside and do the counter, what I think in England is the most difficult work. I thought it had done very well. He was really calm behind the counter. He was composed. I thought his suggestions to the players, Kl Rahul and also for the captain were really incredible.”It was the second time in the current series that he was asked to jure to put on the gloves. During the third test, Pant also underwent a finger injury while trying to stop a delivery of Jasprit Bumrah. Jurel then intervened to keep the counters in his absence.

  1. Jurel is future star no doubt. His temperment is amazing and technic is very good. England bowlers will strugle against him mark my words!

  2. So Rahane thinks Jurel ready but what about his own performence? Why should we trust his judgement when he couldnt even hold his own place in team? Double standards much??

  3. Rahane saying someone is ready to join world cricket? That’s like my grandma teaching me how to use Instagram lol. No offence to Rahane tho, but timing is funny.

  4. Oh yes, because we definitly need more ‘potential’ players who will score 15 runs and get out. What a brilliant strategy by the managment!

  5. Rahane always speaks so well bout young players. Jurel definitly has potencial but lets see if he can handle pressure at Oval. Big test for him!

  6. Same old story every tour. Build up young player, throw him in deep end, watch him fail, then blame him for not being ready. When will we learn proper player developement?

  7. Ah yes, ‘ready to join the world of cricket’ – the classic phrase used before a player gets destroyed by Anderson and Broad. I’m sure this will age well!

  8. Another overhyped player getting chance because of connections probaly. We seen this story before many times. India need experianced players not experiments at this level of cricket.

  9. Interestingly, Jurel’s first class record against swing bowling is quite impresive – 38.5 average in seaming conditions. Also worth noting he’s kept wickets in 45+ matches which is decent experiance. The Oval pitch usually offers some movement so will be interesting test.

  10. Why Jurel when we have better options? This selection make no sense at all. Rahane himself struggled in England conditions last time, so what credibilty does his opinion even have??

  11. Give the kid a chance guys! Everyone was young once. Jurel looks hungry and determined, thats what we need. Better than some experiance players who just collect paycheck and dont perform anyway.

  12. For those intrested: Jurel averages 42.8 in first class cricket with 3 centuries. His keeping stats are solid to with 89% catch success rate. Good tecnical base atleast on paper.
