Timesofindia.com in Manchester: India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, expressed his concern by admitting that his questions were missing from bite and energy on the 3rd day of the fourth test at Old Trafford, highlighting a disturbing decrease in the rhythm of the team’s rapids. “We are trying to wrap our heads. Not too much to judge, but it was a heavy outdoor field. But we need energy on the ball on a surface like this,” the journalists of India told journalists at the end of the day 3. The figures also highlight the concern. Jasprit Bumrah played more than 140 km / h in 39.84% of its deliveries in Headingley and 26.84% at Lord’s. In Old Trafford, this number dropped only 0.57% (only 1 out of 173 balls, including without bullets). This amazing drop in the rhythm for the spearhead of India is surely a question of concern for the side while they are heading for day 4. The unit of rhythm of India had trouble penetrating all day while England ended day 3 on 544/7, leading to 186 points. The sensational 150 of Joe Root and 71 from Ollie Pope maintained pressure visitors, with India granted more than 500 years in a trial round for the first time since 2015. Morkel, however, said that the team was more disciplined about the day before. “We were much better today with the ball. Yesterday was a difficult day,” he said. “Siraj and Boom (Bumrah) have started well today.” Bumrah and Siraj had fears of injury before tea, leaving the field in discomfort. Morkel minimized concerns, saying: “Bumrah rolled the ankle when descending the stairs, Siraj also rolled the ankle. The two are fine. “ India made its debut at Apuihul Kamboj in this crucial test, which just has the window of Ben Duckett for the show, which came day 2. “We needed someone who could make volume and is precise. His name was in the mixture for a long time,” said Morkel. Shardul Thakur, meanwhile, was used sparingly. The six 33 -year -olds of Friday was not an increase compared to the five overs which was awarded to him on Thursday. “Ductor when you have four sailors and you go over five years,” said Morkel. Washington Sundar, who chose two counters, was only led to the attack on the 69th. Developing the time of its deployment, the bowling coach said: “Shubman made this call to stick to a sewing option.”

To what extent are you concerned about the drop in the pace of Jasprit Bumrah?

During the continuous exclusion of Kuldeep Yadav, he added: “He bowls very well at the moment, he is a quality bowling player, but for the moment, this is due to the depth and balance on the side.” England seeking to prolong their advantage, India is faced with a steep ascent. By dragging both in the game and in the series, visitors will have to force a turnaround on Saturday.

  1. People defending this clearly dont understand test cricket philosophy. The whole point of pace bowling is PACE. If you want to bowl slow, become a spinner. This strategy will backfire spectacularly against agressive batting lineups mark my words!

  2. Morne Morkel is absolutly right about this strategy. The way the pacers adapted their approch in the recent matches shows real maturity and understanding of conditions. This is exacly what we need in overseas tests!

  3. Wait, are we talking about cricket or Project Runway here? ‘Couturiers lower the pace’ – are they designing slower outfits? 😂 Someone needs to proofread these headlines!

  4. I completly disagree with this aproach. Test cricket is about sustained pressure through pace AND bounce. By reducing speed, your basically handing the advantage to batsmen who can settle in. What happened to the good old days of relentless fast bowling? This is why we’re struggling against top batting lineups.

  5. What nonsense! Lowering the pace is just excuse for not being able to bowl fast anymore. If you cant maintain aggression throughout the match, your not cut out for test cricket period.

  6. Oh yes, because slowing down has always been the secret to success in fast bowling. Next they’ll tell us spinners should bowl faster. Brilliant strategy really.

  7. Another excuse for mediocrity. In my days bowlers didnt need to ‘wrap their heads around’ anything – they just bowled fast and took wickets. Simple as that.

  8. Ah yes, the ancient art of bowling slower to take more wickets. Revolutionary stuff. I’m sure no one in the history of cricket ever thought of that before Morkel came along.

  9. The biomechanics behind this is intresting. When bowlers reduce pace slightly, they can maintain better control over seam position and trajectory. Its not about bowling slower per se, but about optimizing the speed-accuracy tradeoff. Morkel clearly understands this nuance even if the headline writer doesnt (couturiers lol).

  10. This is genuine tactical evolution. Mokel understands that modern test cricket requires adaptability. Great to see such inteligent coaching!

  11. So now we’re taking fashion advice from couturiers on how to bowl? Makes perfect sense. Maybe they should design new jerseys that make the ball swing more too lol.

  12. For those intrested in the technical aspect: reducing pace by 5-8 kmph while maintaining line and length actualy increases the chances of edges by 23% according to recent data. Morkel’s coaching philosophy seems to be data-driven which is refreshing. The couturiers reference seems like a typo tho – probably meant to say ‘pacers’ or ‘quicks’.
