NEW DELHI: At an age when most 14 -year -olds savor their favorite meals in restaurants, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already made serious sacrifices for his cricket dreams – abandoning her two favorites – Pizza and sheep. This discipline is bearing fruit. Originally from Samastipur, Bihar, the young hitrishr on Saturday engraved his name in history books as a younger player to appear in the Indian Premier League.
The buzz around him had been built since the auction last year, and on Saturday, he made sure to respect media threshing.
Wearing the jersey of the Royals of Rajasthan, Suryavanshi Taken one of the best of India, Shardul Thakur, and launched him over the coverage for a six times – a blow that shouted hard and strong: “I arrived.”
Last year, Suryavanshi became the youngest to obtain an IPL contract, acquired by the Royals for Rs 1.1 crores.
“”Sheep nahi khana hai uskoHAIN instructions. Pizza hata diya hai uske dietetics [Mutton is not allowed for him as per the instructions. Pizza has been removed from his diet chart]. He just likes chicken and sheep. He’s a child, so he really liked pizza. But he doesn’t eat it anymore. When we gave him sheep, no matter how much we have given, he would finish everything. This is why he looks a little joufflu, “said coach Manish Ojha to Timesofindia.com in an exclusive interview.
“He will go very far. We have seen the way he started the sleeves, and I can promise you – he will get a big score in the games to come.”
“He is an intrepid striker. He has repeatedly said that he admires Brian Lara. But it is a mixture of Yuvraj Singh and Brian Lara. His assault is like that of Yuvraj,” he added.
Who is this IPL player?
The big day
A day before the confrontation of Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow super-mansions at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur, Suryavanshi worked hard under the vigilant eye of the high performance director of the franchise of the franchise Zubin Bharucha. After finishing his training session, the 14 -year -old packed his kit of kit and returned to the Team Hotel.
Later in the evening, around 8 p.m., his phone rang – it was a call from the RR management. The message was short but that changed the life: “Prepare for your IPL debut”.
“He was very happy. He called me after his training session yesterday and said (Rahul) Dravid Sir and the direction called him and told him that he would play against Lucknow Super Giants. He was delighted. But was tense. I said to be calm and play as you were. He said. He said. Chakke Waala Ball Ayega in Marunga, Rukunga Nahi [if the ball asks to be hit for a six, won’t hesitate]”Said the coach.
On the day of the match, Suryavanshi was released in the middle alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. After a fist, the young person took his place at the end of the non-state.
Survey
What aspect of Vaibhav’s game impressed you the most during its IPL inch?
Jaiswal played a few deliveries before turning the strike, and at the time when Suryavanshi took custody, the crowd of Jaipur broke out. The 14 -year -old responded in style – by launching a six to announce his arrival on the big stage. He then played a remarkable blow, marking 34 on only 20 bullets, before being perplexed by Rishabh Pant.
What followed was a heartbreaking moment: the adolescent, overwhelmed by emotion, left the ground while wiping tears.
“He is a child. He is emotional. He always talks about Rahul Dravid Sir and his support. He looks at him like a god. Dravid Sir is still there to support him,” said the coach.
“He always says: ‘Jab Chakka Maarne Ka Ball Aayega, in Chakka Hi Maarunga. Single Leke Kya Karunga?“(When there is a ball to strike for six, I’m going to hit a six. What will I do with a single?). Let me tell you an incident. During training sessions, I generally give a striker a hypothetical situation and I attribute some quieurs to challenge it – for example, you need 40 points in 4 overs, or 60 in 6 overs. This guy often intervenes and ends up reaching the target with bullets to lose, “said the coach.
The struggle
Suryavanshi was born on March 27, 2011 – the same year, India raised the World Cup under the direction of MS Dhoni. Now, at only 14, he has already played five first class games for the Bihar during the 2024-25 national season.
His cricket trip started early.
He was only four years old when his father, Sanjeev SuryavanshiA farmer, noticed him to break a plastic ball with great power and timing.
After a long day in the fields, Sanjeev would throw their son’s deliveries of armpits and they would play together. Finally, Sanjeev created a small training area in their backyard, giving a Vaibhav space to perfect his skills.
Impressed by his son’s passion and commitment, Sanjeev took Vaibhav to Brajesh Jha, his first coach, in an academy in Samastipur. After a training under JHA, they made another significant movement – this time in Patna, where Manish Ojha helped to further shape Vaibhav’s cricket capacities.
The 90 km trip from Samastipur to Patna was not an easy task, but Sanjeev was determined. He bought a car and would lead his son to the Academy. Vaibhav trained under Ojha on alternative days.
At the age of 14, Suryavanshi had already become a great force in various local Bihar tournaments.
Whether it is the Heman trophy, the Vinoo Mankad trophy, the Challengers (U-19) trophy (U-19), or the ACC Asian Cup for 19, Vaibhav has checked each style box, moving regularly in the ranks to reach this significant level in his career.
“He was a dominant striker every time he came to the fold. He was patient for his turn. He played in the eighth match of the Royals of Rajasthan. Of course, nobody wants to sit in the canoe and watch the others play. He also can’t wait to go out in the middle, but I told him to be patient, to continue to learn and to wait for his luck.
